I just saw the forecast for our area for the coming weekend and it does not look like the kind of weekend one would choose for a camping trip during which one hoped to do a lot of hiking. The missus and I are heading about an hour north to a state park campground known for its hiking trails. If the current forecast holds up, we will need to get on the trail at sunup and try to return to our campsite well before noon. The rest of the day will probably be spent in the camper with the a/c running. On the plus side, it will give me a chance to do more writing and perhaps even finish the first draft of the new book. The missus is already clamoring to read it. Stay cool if you're somewhere getting hit with this heat.

After reading that parts of AZ are getting between 108f and 116f in during the day and down to 80f at night I'm counting my blessings, so far our nights have been around the 70s and our days around 101f, not enough to complain about all things considered.

Most deserts have low humidity thank goodness @DWDavis it makes the heat a lot more tolerable but sometimes it can be deceptive, many people get heat strokes because they forget to drink water and add salt to their food, surprisingly salt is a must when you're out and about in our heat.

It is the humidity that bothers me more than the heat.

Our temps are going up also. Be careful hiking in the heat.

We will be very careful. I've been hospitalized for dehydration once and once was enough.

If you could box up some of that dry and breezy air and send it our way, I'd be ever so grateful.

@DWDavis It seems that we are going to have a new heatwave next week, I hope it will not last long.

All the heavy rain gave us a bit of a break from the heat, but it will return.

I know it is just a coincidence that Sirius - the dog star - rises with the sun this time of year, but I can sure understand why the ancients thought it brought extra heat to the earth.

Our area is having scattered showers and thunderstorms but nothing here at our house yet. I can hear the thunder in the distance and will keep hoping for rain.

If I planned a trip now, it would definitely be north! You stay cool as well.

We're headed an hour north, but I don't think that's far enough to escape the heat.

Any hiking and exploring we do will be done at sunrise and finished by mid-morning.

Will you have a powered site or do you run a generator? We've installed a diesel heater in our caravan for the cold nights when we don't have power.

Being outside between mid-morning and later afternoon won't be much fun.

Camping with AC seems like a bit of a contradiction to me . We're tent campers and usually stay home during the heat of summer. I will admit, though, that winter camping in North Carolina isn't very appealing...

My wife and tent camped before our boys came along and all the years they were growing up. When they went off to school, we decided it was time to camp up off the ground. We bought a used popup and camped in it for 2 years before upgrading to a hybrid that we camped in for 3 years. Last fall, we found a great deal on a fifth wheel and now that is our home on the road. We plan to take it all over the country when we retire and check sites off our bucket list.
