I've been a wonderin' who'd been snatchin' green apples off my trees 'n leavin' 'hind lil remnants 'f such the past couple weeks. Yup, 'tis Mr. Squirrel! Finally caught the lil fella'n the act yesterday eve, lol. The hubs kept 'nsisting 'twas birds (duh, birds aint got lil teeth!) 'n now he'd be proved'n error coz I've proof. 'd not bother me, but he's purty wasteful 'bout 't. Suprised he aint a belly ache from eatin' all those green apples. Such'd sure bloat a horse 'n cause quite the misery 'n e'en possibly death. 've ya e'er a mystery 'round yer place that finally got solved?

They've not learned their manners. They make a mess on my window sills and ramp with their shells after they've dined. They could at least clean up their messes don't you think?

@kareng oh, i put out peanuts, pumpkin'n sunflower seeds 'n many other squirrely foods. i'm knockin' wood he seems to be leavin' the dwarf apple tree 'lone?? the apples there're gettin' quite large. seems he'd be purty fond 'f watermelon, too. i cut one'p yesterday'n put the rinds out fer the birds to 'njoy. i'm purty certain he's a belly ache somewhere coz he munched 'em all! found remnants 'f such'n his usual dumpin' ground. yup, he's a spot 't seems where's he puts all centers 'f pine cones, partially eaten apples, peanut shells 'n corn cobs, lol.

@velvet53 i dunno since they'd be so green? no worries, they'll decompose'n feed the soil eventually. oh that jay! he 'twas'n a serious tirade today, lol. no apples fer the lil squirrel that i could tell 'n the lil fella jest lay limp like a dishrag when he finally made 't to the feeder closest to the house. that jay'd not e'en give 'im a chance 't the other 2 feeders.

@wolfgirl569 not that i've read? deer aint 'pposed to like 'em'n they deter 'bad bugs'. then 'gain, ya've lots more to choose from than i've here. critters'll go to what they need'n their diet, 'nless most humans who'll jest get ill from the lack'n then deny.

You certainly have great eyes to see red paws, lol. I can barely make the squirrel out on back of the limb. I did think I had a mouse in the kitchen a few months back but it never magnified itself after I thought I saw it scurry over the floor. A few times after that I though I saw a similar sight again and realized maybe my cataracts are getting bigger that it the floaters I've had since my forties.

the sun 'twas dapplin' through the trees'n sort'a washed out his colorin' :) the resident cat 'tis quick to deal with any mice that venture 'ndoors. 'tis most rare 's the feral's 're great hunters. i feel fer ya'n yer eyesight. i've cataracts myself. aint 'lways sure the pic i see 'tis what actually'd be, lol.

@MarshaMusselman i've black dots that frequent my right eye, which's maddenin' 's they're present 24/7. i've read such could be a sign 'f retinal tear. i'd not such when i'd that'n my left eye?? with the cipro, such's a known side 'ffect'n i dunno why i aint gotten such checked yet...

@crazyhorseladycx i also have floaters which can block the votes if the get bigger. I've no idea whether they moving back spot was caused by floaters or can cataracts yet until I find out from my eye Dr whether they've gotten worse. Usually the floaters don't understand my normal vision. I see them more against the backdrop of a wall or my eyelids when trying to sleep.

yes ma'am, he's a cutie. jest doin' what he needs to survive, no diff'rent'n humans do, eh? nope, i'll not trap the lil fella, but may be fixin' some pepper spray to keep 'im out'ta my garden. i read'p'n such 'n most likely he'd be the reason my kale disappeared 'n i've gotten lil to none'n the line 'f green beans. the bonus bein' that they seem to eat 'nsects, too - 'ncludin' grasshoppers.

@cacay1 nah, not outsmarted, jest 'd not heard 'f this fruit 'n veggie raidin'. ne'er 'd those sort'a troubles where i came from. then 'gain, they'd lots 'f nuts 'n berries growin' wild'n those woodlands. we're thinkin' we've narrowed down where this lil darlin' came from.

i could use a pepper 'r garlic spray, but such'd be mighty time consumin' 'n not certain what 'ffect such'd have'n the other critters? i did a lil readin' 'n squirrels. seems they'll eat most anythin' - outside 'f hot peppers 'n garlic.

@Hannihar where i grew 'p, i mostly saw 'em eatin' nuts, too - we'd lots 'f hickory 'n oak trees there'n the woods. not bein' 'round squirrels fer o'er 40 yrs, i'd the need to read'p a bit, lol. 'twas shockin' to find they'll eat most anythin'. kinda like most wild critters, humans 've lots to do with that.

@crazyhorseladycx I thought they only ate nuts but I do not know that much about squirrels eating habits. Where I grew up we used to have a tree and they would use the tree so saw them.

@CarolDM i'd ne'er thought 'f such myself. i did go huntin' to see what all they eat 'n 'twas shocked a bit to find somewhat e'erythin'! 'xplains what happened to my kale, lol. why i've 'nly 3 green beans outta 40 plants, etc. think i may need to mix some pepper 'r garlic spray'n put a halt to some 'f the lil darlin's dinin' spots. i'd 'lso blamed the cats fer diggin' 'round gomer (the compost pile). seems now he 'twas prolly gettin' avocado peels...

That happens to our tangelos and oranges . . . the squirrels get to them, take a bite or two - then throw them in our driveway . At my parents' house I know they've taken their apples and persimmons - and I heard they messed up their baby cucumber leaves - so probably no cucumbers will come around for harvest time. Well the mystery right now is something has been taking our strawberries! I just have 3 plants . . . a smaller pot on top of another bigger one . . . the other day the smaller one was knocked over. Those 3 plants have been producing a lot this season (well - that meaning "a few") and luckily the kids have been able to pick them for the most part. But something has left a string of the core on a few strawberries . . . one was half pecked like a couple days ago. Bird? Squirrel? We haven't caught the thief red handed yet .

i read ya can spray hot pepper 'r garlic 'n yer fruits 'n veggies 'n they'll leave 'em 'lone? seems those'd be the only thingies squirrels'll not partake'n. i'm gonna need to make a batch 'n see 's somethin' (most likely mr. squirrel) 'tis not jest eatin' my green beans off the bush, but 'lso diggin' ('ll not surprise me if'n corn comes'p there, lol). 's fer yer strawberries? could'a been either one'f those lil darlin's. 'tis a tad frustratin' when ya find 'em half-eaten.

yes ma'am, caught the lil fella with most certain evidence, lol. i've read a bit more'n these lil squirrels'n 't seems they'll eat most anythin', which i found a tad shockin'. did solve the mystery (i think) 'f who ate my kale 'n's been rummagin' through mr. gomer (the compost pile - half gnawed avocado seeds 's evidence). the bonus i reckon'd be they'll 'lso eat grasshoppers. if'n so, he needs to get busy with that! saw the ol' calico momma cat (the original feral...) catch 'er a big'un today. she no doubt took such to the mass 'f kittens to give 'em a bit 'f learnin'.
