A new gas cylinder at home. I have tried many.

Finally the truck with the gas cylinders was here. Juanito yelled GAS and I answered WAIT but he did not hear.
He has brought my gas cylinders for almost 20 years. He is a wonderful man that has helped me in more than one occasion.
I have thought several times about solar power energy. But I don´t think that this city is appropriate for it. So it is gas or electricity.
What sort of energy do you use to warm yourself?

The current place I am in is electric baseboard heaters, the place before was central gas heating. I did live in a place years ago that had a wood burning stove and a fire place, it was a lot more work to get heat but it was much cheaper.

Where I live, fireplaces have been banned for decades. I loved them.

@Bensen32 Our city has too much pollution as it is. When smog is too big, not all the cars are allowed to run on the streets.

That´s why we decided against solar energy when we built the house. But heating the house in winter is beyond my budget now that I live alone and retired. So I heat only part of it.

@marguicha We calculated the costs to install the solar powered heating and how much we pay each year for gas. To cover the costs we need to heat the house for the next 25 years, we do not even know if we will still be here and alive.

We use gas for heating, hot water and cooking but it is piped to the house, not in cylinders. Even though Britain is not noted for its sunshine, quite a few houses have solar panels which nearly always generate more electricity than the house uses, so quite a few householders have no electricity bills or even make a profit when the company buys the surplus electricity from them.
Recently, I have heard people talk about heat pumps which work like a refrigerator in reverse and draw heat from the air outside or the ground (even in winter).

Gas is piped to most of the houses in this neighborhood now, but it wasn´t when we came to live here. When the piped gas came, we were offered to change the injectors in all our appliances for free. But I did not trust the people who were doing the job and I have a stove that is as good as new and over 45 years old. My daughters have changed stoves several times as they are not as good as mine.

I use both for heating in winter and both are very expensive as I´m on a retirement budget.

We burn wood but also have an electric air-conditioner.
