I killed it

Or rather, it killed itself. My black and decker mini vac seems to have finally kicked the bucket. It's not charging at all. No light has come on to say that it's charging, the machine won't turn on. It seems to have had it's final hurrah and decided to retire. I still have it on the charger in the hopes that this little light oh mine comes on, but I'm not expecting it to. I don't think it's the charger as there appears to be nothing wrong with it. Maybe I'll get a dirt devil next time... *Goes to peruse ebay for new mini vac*

I've bought three new vacuums since the beginning of the year. A corded handheld for the stairs and let fur on the furniture. A small cannisters for the hardwood a and pergo floors and just last week an upright Eureka for the carpeted areas. I'm pleased with all three. My husband had to buy a new shop vac. It's the year of the vacuum for us.

We have a shark brand vacuum and my mini vac. The shark vacuum works pretty well but I am not the biggest fan of the hose part. The hose comes out of the handle, and the vacuum easily falls to the ground if I need to pull the hose around to tight corners. Your cannister vacuum doesn't do carpeted floors as well as hardwood?

@SophiaMorros Oh okay. No pets here, but I know people who have mostly hardwood floors and just sweep instead of vacuuming.

@ScribbledAdNauseum With our cats and dog, I have to have a vacuum with a beater brush to get the fur and dander out of the carpet the cannister just wasn't up to the job (it's an inexpensive little Bissell Zing).

No matter which brand you buy, the batteries never last many years, this is why I buy one with a cable that I plug.

That's what this is, a plug in cable. JJ made me realize that the cable could still be defunct even if it doesn't look defunct. I am going to try to buy a new cable. My mini vac is a Black and Decker.

@LadyDuck It should still have battery life left in it. JJ did make me realize it could be the cable.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I know that it is not difficult to test the cable, but you need a small accessory to do this.

Did you try another outlet for charging? Just a thought that the outlet may have gone bad? I have had the dirt devel mini in the past and it lasted for many years. In fact, I'm wondering where it is now. It may still be packed in a box from this move years ago. ha.

I tried three different outlets, it's not the outlet itself, though I guess it could be the charger itself.

At times, my regular vacuum cleaner needs to be cleaned out. Those filters get all plugged up and won't allow air to flow through. I've been through many vacuum cleaners, from not changing the filters.

I don't think it's the filter on this one, it just won't charge. However, I was looking at the filter the other day.

@kobesbuddy I *think* these filters are washable, but I am not sure. I haven't ever changed it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Those filters get filthy, after a few uses.

Is it essential to use it?
• United States

Is the charger essential? Yes, as it loses charge over time. Is the vacuum essential to use? I prefer it for small jobs.

I hate when electrical things go all glitchy. Wonder if a wire is loose somewhere.

It could be the charger itself. JJ made me realize that, I was all ready to chuck the whole thing and get a new one.

It's sad when a reliable appliance bites the dust.

It really is, but oh well. I am going to buy a charger first, and if that doesn't work I'll see about buying the exact same mini vac since I love it so much.

I am going to try to buy another plug for it first. If that doesn't work I'll just have to get another one.

My uncle gave me his vacuum which was a Bissell. It was regular vacuum. The belt got warped and I was going to get a new belt for it. I often complained that it's so heavy. So my mother gave her dirt devil which was lighter and smaller. The belt was warped on it too. So I bought a new belt for it. My mother wanted it for a job and now it's gone. My mother complained about the Bissell that my uncle gave me. So we bought a new vacuum and it's another Bissell. It's lightweight.

I don't take things to the repair shop, it may just be the charger...
