The Horse kicks, snorts and farts: More really bad teaching at the preschool.

I was hoping for another relaxing day playing with 12- through 35-month-olds at the preschool day. But no, another Really Bad Teacher had to ruin my day.
I have been teaching the littlies "empathy." Empathy is understanding another's "feelings," and (at that age) taking action to make others feel better.
Today, one of my 2-year-olds was pushed over by a "brutish" 2-year-old who has impulse control issues. Another 2-year-old rushed over to "help up" the "victim."
She extended her hand, and the new "substitute" said, "Leave her alone. She doesn't need help."
The helper looked at me with an expression of total confusion. I had been "training" her for months to "help your friends when they have an owie or got pushed over by someone else."
Later, I told her (the hepler), "Thank you for trying to help your friend." But nothing more. 2-year-olds don't need to know that there are good and bad teachers.
I'm still kicking, snorting and farting inside.

What is wrong with these people?!?! Are they the cell phone zombies?
If I were there I would punch her in the face, for you since you cannot, just because of the crap they do to these little kids.

The preschool teacher should be ashamed.

That's so sad, teachers of any sort should encourage being kind and treating others how they want to be treated.
Bullying and being mean is taught and encouraged at such young ages. =(

Not good at all. She should have been pee'd on by a "Russian racehorse". (hubby always talks about peeing like a Russian racehorse). Then maybe she would like some empathy.

@TheHorse Aren't teachers trained to teach empathy to students?

Without addressing the 'teacher' in question, could you have immediately praised the little girl for trying to help a friend and letting her know that offering to help is okay? It might have been educational for both the jerk 'teacher' and the child.

@TheHorse All this makes me wonder about kids who are being raised in daycare by workers instead of in homes by parents. I fear there are many more teachers who lack, and therefore don't teach, empathy than there are teachers like you. I see the results of raising our kids in child warehouses in my classroom all too often.

i'm thinkin ya prolly ought'a tossed'n some bitin', too. that 'teacher' needs to spend a bit 'f time 'hind a woodshed perhaps? 'r, maybe they'd the same told to 'em whilst they were growin' 'n such stuck?

@TheHorse i'm stunned! if'n y'ave that authority, why not utilize 't? 'tis most 'pparent that 'teacher' needs some serious trainin', 's well 's some 'f the others. the common goal 'tis to help raise good young'uns, so's they grow to be good adults - filled with compassion, empathy, adventure, self-respect, etc. so's they make the correct choices throughout their lives... aint 't?

@crazyhorseladycx It is. I too am stunned by what I have seen in terms of teacher hiring, both at this school and at others.

@Hannihar That teacher should not be teaching. But I guess there's a shortage. The pay is not that great. I DO have compassion for 2-year-old bullies, because it generally means they're either spoiled or have been bullied at home. It's not hard to use modeling (Bandura) and scaffolding (Vygotsky) to get them on the right path.

This teacher should not be teaching anyone if she cannot try to have empathy and not yell and I have no compassion at all for bullies. They are mean and grow up if not straightened out to become very very nasty people. I had a couple above me for two years and I have a jerk now and the landlords for that apartment are nasty too.

I remember those days. I feel your pain. One of the big reasons I am no longer a teacher.

Love the title. Very true description when they go throwing a fit.
I cant believe a teacher would do that at all. That is all types of wrong.

You are such a good influence on these children. The bullying starts very young.
