Moving closer towards our goal

It has been another fruitful day for us. Vince has welded the two pieces of steel together to form a bream and this afternoon I painted it with a rust-protective paint. Vince has now started redesigning the lights and light switches. At the moment they are on the central pole that we’ll be removing.
We had a great piece of luck. Vince stopped to say hello to the people just down the road. I wrote about the property being divided so a brother and sister will both share the land. We knew their parents from long ago. Anyway, the brother has a tractor with a forklift affair which he has is ideal to lift the beam up to roof height. All we’d need to do is position it and bolt it in place. This should make a tricky job so much easier. He is coming 9am on Monday and by then we should be well and truly ready for him.
Photo shows the finished beam with its coat of paint.

I always love when a project really starts to come together, and you can almost see the finished product in your mind! I'm sure you and Vince will be ecstatic once this is all finished! And it is also nice that you have neighbors who are willing to help. It will surely make finishing the project much easier.

@moffittjc I'm the 'gopher' and also have a role to play in saying 'have you thought about this' or 'don't forget you said you'd do x next'.

I also like bringing home a trailer full of poles and panels then creating two scaffolds out of it all. And when we were working on the bus, we'd have all these bits and pieces but by the time we finished, we'd have a bathroom or whatever. The forklift affair will be a godsend.

@FayeHazel Luckily we don't have to pay for our time as sometimes we're incredibly slow but it doesn't matter when you're working for yourself.

@JudyEv Oh amazing to have that skill. You're right, when you make it yourself it can be just as you want it to be

We cheated a bit as, when we got the quote to have it made, the guy emailed the drawing for the beam so we were able to use the dimensions off that. However, Vince's brother could have helped with that if we hadn't had the drawing.

It is very good of him to help us. His machine will make all the difference to getting the beam up.

It looks like that is going to be a good size shed.

The shed is very useful as it is but when we remove that centre post, we'll be able to get the caravan in much more easily. In the photo the right-hand door is shut but at the edge near the van is a post. That's the one we're taking out. But so the roof doesn't collapse we need to put a horizontal beam right across the opening.

Good for you ! Your neighbour comes up trumps as you worry about how to lift the beam up.

The beam should be in place by this time tomorrow. Then there will just be a few finishing pieces to do.

Vince is down doing the lights but there is nothing I can help with at the moment. Tomorrow is D-Day for putting the beam in place.
