Moving closer towards our goal

It has been another fruitful day for us. Vince has welded the two pieces of steel together to form a bream and this afternoon I painted it with a rust-protective paint. Vince has now started redesigning the lights and light switches. At the moment they are on the central pole that we’ll be removing. We had a great piece of luck. Vince stopped to say hello to the people just down the road. I wrote about the property being divided so a brother and sister will both share the land. We knew their parents from long ago. Anyway, the brother has a tractor with a forklift affair which he has is ideal to lift the beam up to roof height. All we’d need to do is position it and bolt it in place. This should make a tricky job so much easier. He is coming 9am on Monday and by then we should be well and truly ready for him. Photo shows the finished beam with its coat of paint.

Its so nice when neighbours can help each other out like that. We've always enjoyed a great relationship with our neighbours over the years. That's a great paint job you did, no drips!

These have only just moved in really. The sister bought the whole block and now the brother has his 10 acres fenced off. I guess another house will be the next step. It was very kind of him to offer to help.

I always love when a project really starts to come together, and you can almost see the finished product in your mind! I'm sure you and Vince will be ecstatic once this is all finished! And it is also nice that you have neighbors who are willing to help. It will surely make finishing the project much easier.

@moffittjc I'm the 'gopher' and also have a role to play in saying 'have you thought about this' or 'don't forget you said you'd do x next'.

I also like bringing home a trailer full of poles and panels then creating two scaffolds out of it all. And when we were working on the bus, we'd have all these bits and pieces but by the time we finished, we'd have a bathroom or whatever. The forklift affair will be a godsend.

Having the help with the forklift made all the difference. We would have needed at least another two people without it.

He has done quite a bit of welding over the years. We've made all sorts of things really. It's always fun to do things yourself.

@FayeHazel Luckily we don't have to pay for our time as sometimes we're incredibly slow but it doesn't matter when you're working for yourself.

We cheated a bit as, when we got the quote to have it made, the guy emailed the drawing for the beam so we were able to use the dimensions off that. However, Vince's brother could have helped with that if we hadn't had the drawing.

@JudyEv We do the same and sometimes I can have my voice heard. Some of my ideas are good to solve a problem.

We have done a lot together now and as long as he does as he's told, we get along well. That's a joke - but I have good ideas from time to time which can help get round a problem.

It is quite a large shed and we have quite a bit in it although we've also sold a couple of small implements lately and that has made a bit more room.

The shed is very useful as it is but when we remove that centre post, we'll be able to get the caravan in much more easily. In the photo the right-hand door is shut but at the edge near the van is a post. That's the one we're taking out. But so the roof doesn't collapse we need to put a horizontal beam right across the opening.
