Do people say the truth when they are angry?

I had a discussion with my father. He told me that people say the truth when they are angry or drunk. I would be sad if that is true. I received some words that really hurt. And I am sure that everyone has the same problem. When people are angry they talk too much and they can say something wrong. They can regret later, but it's too late. The words can't be forgotten. Do people say the truth when they are angry?

I think most people say the truth when they are angry. They express what they really feel.

@sophie09 Yes, they are. But we don't need someone who tries to remember us all the time our mistakes.

Yes, I believe they do. It's a way of getting those pent up feelings out in the open.

It's good that we can know how a person thinks. It's sad when we find out that we are not wanted or loved.

It depends on what is being said. If they are judging someone I dont think they always say the truth. They only say something to spite and hurt the other person.

@dya80dya Yes because in their anger they just want to hurt the other person. We should just ignore the statements by such people.

If they are angry many times they judge people. And they say the worst words.

This is usually the case because you do not refrain and you do not care to hurt the person in front of you.

@dya80dya You are right, it is sad sometimes to discover what they really think of us.

I agree. At least in this way we can know what other persons think. And it's sad to know that we are a burden for them.

It depends from person to person. I think when people are very angry they do say the truth because they want to be hurtful. I am sorry someone has hurt you.

@dya80dya I am sorry to hear that and I send you virtual hugs although I know that won't help anything but I do care.

I think it’s true. People seem to say things when angry that they regret afterwards.

The truth can hurt others. Sometimes when people are angry they say that we are a burden for them. This is hard to accept.

@dya80dya That’s true, too. It’s best to say nothing at all.

Sometimes people have been irritated about something for a long time, but they never told the other person, and when they get angry they say it all at once. Sometimes they just want to hurt the other person. I would say that they express their truth, not THE truth. For instance if someone says "You are stupid" they are expressing their thoughts about the other person, but it doesn't mean that the other person is stupid.

I agree. They express their own thoughts. And it's still sad to know how they think.

@dya80dya Yes, it is sad to listen to that. Words can hurt a lot. Sometimes people apologize afterwards, but the words have already been said and it can be hard to forget some of the things that people say.

Most of it is yes but that is if the anger has reached its peak.

I agree. In those moments we can know what are the real thoughts of the angry person.

Sometimes when I get angry, I will let out the reason I chew out someone for doing something wrong.

Not really!! In anger they over exaggerate the truth and tell you your flaws and many times turn things around!!

They over-exaggerate the truth to hurt the other person. But what if they express their real feelings?

Anger to me is a combination of feeling of frustration towards a certain situation. Some people can control their emotions but some cannot. People who have kept their emotions and frustrations sometimes let it all out when angered. That way you say things thats already been piling up and you cant control it .What comes out of your mouth when angered is your true feelings so I guess thats the truth .
