Scratching an itch. I finally went to my friend's new restaurant.

While my car was being "diagnosed" the other day, I cycled over to my friend's new Thai restaurant. She ran the place near my house for years, and then let her brother take that one over. She then opened a new place up a couple of miles away in Concord. The food there is just as good as at the other place. She came out and sat with me for awhile. I had Thai soup and spring rolls, along with a beer. I brought the extra spring rolls home with me and had them for dinner-yummy! Have you tried any new restaurants lately. I'll probably still visit the older place more than the newer one, but it was good to see my friend.

Do you ever "order out"? I'm famous for that when it comes to Thai.

Thai food is really good, but the first time I had it, it nearly set my mouth on fire..somebody should have warned me! New restaurants, not really..I guess the last newish place I went to was The Cove, which I have only been to, once or twice before since it opened under new management.

Is it good. What kind of food do they serve? Yeah, Thai can be "hecka" spicy.

I like Thai food, but not particularly Thai Spring Rolls, I prefer the Chinese Spring Rolls.

@TheHorse They are not very different, but I prefer the Chinese filling, than the Thai filling.

I've often wondered how Chinese Spring rolls and egg rolls differ.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it. We recently had a bad meal at one of our favorite restaurants.

@Tampa_girl7 Eeps. What was "bad"? Mexican food is often similar ingredients with slightly different presentation/cooking.

Haven't really tried any new ones lately. But you can't go wrong with Thai food.

I agree. Thai is almost always good. Except in Montana. Don't eat Thai in a small town in Montana. I did. Not good.

@TheHorse If I am ever in a small town in Montana I will heed your warning. My only complaint with the Thai menu in general is that most of it is spicy, and I just don't do spicy. So I am limited in my choices a bit.

@porwest I think you can ask for non-spicy. They make things right before they serve them.

I bet my husband would like the soup, as long as it did not have tofu in it.We have not tried anything new lately. I am actually trying to eliminate as much as possible, eating out. I find I feel better and my health is better as well as my pocket if we eat at home.

Did the rolls really come with a spring in them? Truth be told, I have so many food allergies that I’m scared to try things that aren’t “tried and true” for me.

When I visited Norfolk, VA at the end of May my son and I tried several of the local independent eateries. Here in town, most of the new places are chain stores and I've tried a few. Firehouse Subs was okay. I wasn't impressed with Chipolte.

@TheHorse I thought so. They had a more authentic feel to them, and the staff seemed happier and more engaged with the customers. The food was much better.

I don't really love where I live (the Bay Area), but the food here sure is excellent. I could never duplicate most of those recipes.

No new restaurants, but new dishes now that my husband can't have anything with gluten. I'm cooking more at home and discovering some dishes that are pretty good.

@TheHorse I've tried different products and it's a different taste, but some GF foods are better than the regular. The difference is that GF foods use other grains for flour instead of wheat.

@TheHorse Sounds like she made an success of her place and it was time to open a new one. Is the food the same near your house? I bet she was happy to see you too. I have not eaten out since June and that was not a new place. A friend and I celebrate our birthdays and cannot when we usually do so went in June instead.

The food is similar in both places. The newer place is in a more "urban" area, so she has to deal with homeless people, the occasional poop on the bathroom floor, etc. The original place is in a quiet suburban area.

I love Thai food! Last night we went to a county fair near the beach - and ended up having dinner at the nearby pier (the only restaurant there). It was actually quite yummy - had the Thai mahi mahi (with red curry, vegetables and rice).

That sounds perfect to me! I don't eat much fish, but with a Thai red curry sauce, I'd be "happy as a clam."

Actually, the spring rolls were pretty mellow. The soup had some kick to it, though.
