Ride 'Em, Cowboy

At the horse endurance ride we attended at the weekend, some riders did a 20 kilometre ride. One of the riders was a boy of about ten who rode with his mother. At one section of the track, the riders had to cross a bit of a creek which had some water in it. Most horses paid no attention to the water but some were a bit nervous and one lady dismounted and led her horse across.
But Tally, which is the name of Blake’s pony, had no such qualms and galloped across in fine style. His mother is going to have a poster made of this photo to put up in his room.
Horses are instinctively wary of water and boggy ground. With experience and trust in their rider, they learn that it’s safe to go forward and cross such obstacles. I think sometimes too, reflections in puddles can scare horses.

The mother is going to put the poster in his room. I think that is pretty cool.

omgsh! what a sweet pic! wonderful she's gonna get such blown'p to put'n her sons room. i'd a pony, way back'n the day, who didn't wish to cross these sort'a thingies. she'd jump'n the middle'n stomp though, 'til we were both covered'n mud, lol.
the horses here aint used to water crossin'. when we've puddles here, they dislike 't outside 'f rollin'. that slippery caliche that lies 'neath the blow sand makes fer rather treacherous footin'. takes a while to get 'em trained to do such comfortably. i'd 3 i'd taken lots 'f time with, where they'd cross most anythin' without hesitation. which't times meant fer a very soggy saddle'n rider, lol.
the reflections could be somethin' 'f concern, hadn't thought 'f that aspect?

That picture will make a great poster. I had one that would not step in water at all. She would jump them and often we still landed in the wider ones. That just meant another jump to her.

It's nice that one wasn't frightened of the water and went through without a problem. Very nice picture and will make a great poster.
