A MyLot Red Flag

After commenting on a post about the endurance of MyLot it got me to thinking "what would be the first red flag that something is wrong with the site?" As many of you have probably been as well, I have been on many sites before this one that of course went totally kaput.
There are certainly going to be signs that something is going wrong that we all may more readily recognize having experienced these things in the past with other sites.
One HUGE red flag for me would be a raising of the minimum payout threshold.
That's a biggie.
On most of the sites I have participated in that was usually the first thing to perpetuate the end. A site would raise the minimum payout claiming that it would make it easier to administer payments and so on and so forth.
But what it really meant is that the site did not really have the money to MAKE those payouts, and so if it could prolong the process, and keep people writing and interacting, in their minds the hope was that the situation of the lack of funds to make the payout might correct itself.
It rarely does. What usually happened after raising the minimum payout threshold was that some people would get paid and others might have their payments missed with a 'promise' that they were working out some bugs and people would eventually get their money.
What they were doing in that case was making sure to payout their more active members to keep them posting and commenting and bringing in the money.
Of course this never worked and the sites went kaput, but not before people eventually lost their earnings ultimately.
If the site ever raises its minimum payout threshold, this would be the first red flag for me that something is wrong with the money, and would call into question whether or not the site really has the ability to pay.
I do not foresee this happening because I think the site has figured out a model that actually works so that everyone gets a little slice of the pie.
But it is the one thing I am definitely aware of and would keep an eye on.

Yup. That is exactly what happened at Bubblews. At first when all the posts started coming around that people were not getting paid, and my checks kept coming, I was confused. And then it started to make sense to me. I was VERY active on the site, and I think that's part of the reason I was paid until the very end while others were not. They were taking from Peter to pay Paul I think, and trying to keep more active members around to fill their coffers before they ran off with whatever was left.

I'm just going to enjoy my time here as long as I can.

@Susan2015 Many people say that. What I have found is that most of the time when a site stops paying, most of those, including those who said they would stick around anyway, actually don't. When sites that pay stop paying the activity almost comes to a complete halt. I have seen this too many times to count.

You make sense, but I enjoy the interaction more than the few dollars I get.

@porwest If I left, it would be because so many others left and there wouldn't be people to interact with. I don't earn enough on here for the few dollars to be why I'm here.

@1creekgirl Oh, don't get me wrong. It is certainly not life changing money. But it also certainly depends on what you do with it that determines the true value over time. I save or invest any money I earn online, and the dollars do add up, but mostly the compound interest adds up. The money element for me is part of the fun, and if that goes away...so do I.

I have heard this sentiment on almost every single site like this I have ever been on, and it turned out be more sentiment than reality. In almost all cases everyone leaves a paying site when it stops paying. I have just experienced this too many times to count. I don't know why MyLot would be any different ultimately.
Everyone says they will stay. Most of them don't actually stay.

Thanks for the explanation. You got a point there we just have to be wary everytime we sign up for some sites.

I was on a site that didn't change its payout minimum but instead ended its earnings program. And they came up with this thing where others could support the members, which meant donating them money. Of course if someone donated money to a member the site took part of the money. After the earnings program was discontinued the site still operated but then went kaput. And of course those that had earnings in their accounts that were below the minimum never got the money. Not sure about those that had reached payout.
