Can you tell what this is? Do you have these where you live?

One of the things I thought was cool on my way through Nevada is pictured here. Can you tell what it is? It's actually an animal crossing, so the wild animals that inhabit the high desert there can have access to both sides of the road. The road pictured here is Interstate 80, a four lane highway on which motorists generally drive 80 mph to 90 mph (the ostensible speed limit is 80). Do they have these where you live? I don't think I've seen any in California, but I'm not sure.

They're talking about building such so the moose can cross from New Brunswick (which has oodles of moose) to Nova Scotia (where moose had been hunted almost out of existence). I've never seen a moose and certainly don't want to be stepped on by one.

Moose can get a little feisty if you get too close to them.

I think I have seen these before, probably when going camping. I just thought it was a bridge. The only animal crossing I really knew of is the video game haha

no sir, but i keep workin' to get such all o'er the u.s. these're vital fer our critters whom humans seem to've disregarded'n terms 'f their nomadic behaviors. been lobbyin' with nevada, wyomin', colorado 'n here'n new mexico fer such fer years. one 'f my many fights...

@TheHorse sadly not 'nough. can't get the wild horse advocates to see that such's beneficial fer all critters 'n lobby 's such. been workin' to get california to do such fer eons't seems - fer the mountain lions 'n others that've been cut off due to the vast multi-lane traffic. all claim 'tis too 'xpensive. they should'a thought 'bout such 'fore they cut off others lifelines. that bein' said, i continue to lobby fer such. gettin' all i can 'nboard 's possible.

I can hardly see it at all. If we are to guess what the animal is, you could crop the picture to make the animal bigger. Just my suggestion.

There is no animal in the picture. I just stopped to photograph the overpass. There were several throughout central Nevada.

@myklj999 Oh, okay, now I get it. I can see something on the edge of the highway before the bridge. That's what I thought. It has been a tough day, brain cells are napping.

That's interesting... The question is... Do the animals use it?

I was wondering that too. I didn't see anything resembling a Noah's Ark procession as I passed under them.

That's amazing but I don't know of anything like that in the UK. We have a lot of road kill here so we could do with something like that.

Yes, we have animal crossing here in Switzerland, also underground passages for "frogs crossing".

@TheHorse Many frogs were killed every year in Spring, so they crated those underground passages to let them cross safely.

We have wildlife corridors in Florida. In fact, there is a big one that crosses I-75 just south of where I live.

@TheHorse Florida is getting ready to build three new major highways in the near future, and they've already invited numerous environmental groups to the table to help design the highways in such ways to minimize damage to the native ecosystems and animals. I hope they come up with some innovative ways to ensure that wildlife can safely cross the highways once they are built.

Do you know when they were built? I was up in Banff/Jasper, admiring the glaciers, but it was several decades ago.

@TheHorse several decades ago, they may have just had the tunnels. The glaciers have shrunk since decades ago!
