Another of my main projects at the cabin was to...

...make this colletion of 2x4s and 2x6s look like a "beam," connecting the old and "new" (1957) parts of the cabin. I decided to spray paint the "beam" with the same dark brown that I had used on the window frames, but to leave the vertical supports undone for now, so my brother and his wife could have some input. My intent was to acknowledge the color of the "old" (1930s or 1940s) log part of the cabin in the new room, while having the new room look more modern. I'll provide an "after" shot down the road. Do you like making aesthetic decisions? I always have to give them some thought.

So.... no sheet rock will go up? AND that green is horrible.

@andriaperry I've lived there for a whole Summer (a few times) back in my hay stacking days. But the cabin isn't insulated, so I'd probably freeze if I stayed there in the Winter.

No new sheet rock. Yeah, it was fun to replace the Exorcist green with wood-matching brown.

@TheHorse Have you ever thought of living there at the cabin?

I like reading about your improvements and getting some inspiration. I have some stuff in my head I would like to do it is just a matter of doing it.

Some improvements aren't that hard. Just set your mind to it and do a little bit at a time.

@Tampa_girl7 I see a man with a hammer. What do you have him working on? Is he appropriately rewarded at the end of his day of labor?

It was fun even as I was doing it. I had a plan, and knew that I could execute that plan.

Glad you were trying to keep the old look while making it a little more new.

Even though I am just a grunt, I do have some aesthetic sense. I was happy with the look of the "new room" when I headed back to CA.

Yes, I like to make aesthetic decisions, but I always discuss my decisions with my husband first.

@TheHorse I do without asking only when I know that he would say "no way that you start such a hard work alone". I know that I can and I do.

That makes sense. I had told my brother of my intention to redo the window frames. The "rafter" thing occurred to me while I was there and couldn't contact him.
