A distinctive rock and lots of coins

Firstly, the image has nothing to do with the post. This rock is on the large granite outcrop that is BeringBooding Rock near Beacon in Western Australia. Isn’t it an unusual shape?
But what I wanted to share is that yesterday we went through a plastic container that holds all the small change when Vince empties out his pockets. It’s been accumulating for some years.
When our boys would come home from Melbourne or Ireland, they would be given the task of counting it. We’d then give them that amount as a gift. Of course, we couldn’t make them take several kilos of coin so we’d give them notes and next time they’d visit, we’d go through the whole thing again. Luckily - in a way - it was good that they were only able to visit every few years!
However, this time we parcelled the coin up in plastic coin bags and took it into our local bank. We’ll still share the proceeds between the boys but might take out enough to treat ourselves to a meal for our 48th wedding anniversary which is coming up in a few weeks.

I was thinking about doing this too, but I will put what I have in savings.

That’s a lovely ritual, but this time you should take some and treat yourselves to a lovely 48th wedding anniversary dinner.
We are in the poor house. Our grandkids lay claim to any change my husband keeps for them in a jar. They have to divvy it up themselves. One less thing for us to do. lol

The value of Philippine loose change is too small to collect
, I do that too but the amount I raise up could hardly buy anything but it's still money. I collect small bills instead.

That was a nice thing to do. I usually keep the coins in a piggy bank for several months than bring to the bank, they have a machine to count them, it's easier. Our 48th will come in December, I hope my husband will be fine enough to go out for a nice dinner.

We took ours to a bank once and ran them through a machine. But we were a bit careless and we jammed up their nice machine with a couple of buttons and a paper-clip!
I hope your husband will be enough to go out for dinner. We don't go out as much as we used too. It's a bit much effort sometimes. And it's more expensive than it used to be.

i need that rock! would look brilliant 't the head 'f the waterfall fer the pond, lol. nearly looks to be a fossilized bone from some ancient dinosaur :)
we used to save all coins from a dollar broken 'n then the hubs started usin' a debit card....'tis amazin' how much'n coin we'd accumulate'n jest a couple 'f years back'n the day. i bet yer sons t'were 'ppreciative 'f such a gift.
i think y'all should take such out to celebrate yer anniversary. purty sure those boys'd 'pprove :)

@JudyEv that's a purty good 'stash' :) i think 'tis coz 'f those debit cards? makes 't more diff'cult fer folks to save any 'f their funds. that'n such's a habit. i keep workin' to get the hubs to use cash fer his daily squanderin' (refuses to take drinks/food to work, feels he'd be too good fer such...). back when i'd a 'real' job, betwixt the 2 'f us, we'd usually 've o'er a thousand each year jest from savin' e'ery bit 'f coin. i'd purposely go 1-2 cents o'er 't the gas pump so's i'd more change, lol.
i'm still a cash gal myself 'n when i do go to town 'n make purchases, that change goes 'nto a container. perhaps i ought'a do such more'n 3-4 times a year? sure'd build'p quicker, lol.

@crazyhorseladycx When we see a sale on some item, I often say 'think how much we'd save if we bought a dozen'.
However, if you don't buy anything at all, you save 100%.

I save change from my pocket too and I usually just let it pile up like I did this for a year or two and last year when I was getting ready to go on vacation I thought this would be a good time to cash in that change and see how much I have and take it as spending money. I took the bucket to the bank and cashed it in. I didn't realize I had save $587. I was completely surprised how much I had.

That is so cool - was it formed by rocks falling or erosion?

@DocAndersen I'm always telling Vince off. He says stuff with such conviction that people think he knows what he's talking about but half the time he's not really sure. I could do the same here, couldn't I?

I assume the rock is shaped like that due to water being higher at some point and eroding it?
That is a neat tradition you and Vince do of saving up the coins and letting your children have it. That's a lovely idea to use some of it towards your anniversary dinner.

I also save up my loose coins all year long, and then take it to the bank to convert to cash, which I then split up and give to my two children. I've been doing this ever since they were toddlers, and they absolutely love it and look forward to it every year!

@JudyEv That's true, I don't notice the loss of a few coins each week, but I have seen their bank accounts grow to very nice amounts over the years.

vince is just like my husband. he has a piggy bank too and just recently deposited it to the.bank. he was able to save 100usd in a few months. these were the change he got from buying gas for his car or what.
as for me, i have a piggy bank too but i drop there our paper.money with the highest value. so i save more than my husband does.
advance happy anniversary moss judy! two more years and it will be your golden anniversarry. only few can celebrate it.

It is surprising how quickly small amounts can add up. Thanks for the advance good wishes. :)

in all honesty my husband probably has more to tolerate.
