The ketchup I bought seems to have disappeared

I open the fridge this morning and it hits me that I do not see the ketchup that I had bought (at Lidl) on Saturday. So, I check the pantry thinking we put it there by mistake. It's not there. Then I check places in the kitchen I know it can't be, like the freezer, and where we keep spices, dishes, and pots and pans, etc., because you just never know. It's not there either. Then I stop and think if I actually bought the damn thing, even though I remember putting it in my shopping cart. I go check my wallet for the receipt. Thankfully, it's still there. Towards the bottom I see it says ketchup $1.69. This means I actually bought it. So where the heck is it? All of a sudden hubby calls me, so I tell him about the missing ketchup and ask him if he saw it in the car. He tells me he doesn't know but will check his car. Maybe the bottle rolled under the seat or something... Fingers crossed it's there. If it's not then maybe it's in the trunk if that's where he put the bags. If not, I guess we must have left it in the shopping cart and forgot to move it to the car. That would be a bummer. And not so much because I spend money and have no ketchup but because I don't have ketchup and I need it as I am almost out of the one I have.

It is not in the ca.r And it's nowhere in the kitchen. And it can't be anywhere else in the house. So that means we must have left it in the shopping cart. But hubby went to bring the shopping cart back after we unloaded it, so would have noticed if it was there because it's red. Unless we left it on the conveyor belt but I don't remember that happening. I told about this to a friend and he said just go to the store with the receipt and they will give you another one. Really? I've never heard of that. Unless maybe if you come to them right away. But if you come to them a week later I doubt they'd give me another bottle.

You could call the store and ask if ketchup was left on the belt. Or you could try bringing in your receipt.

Did you ever figure out whatever happened to the mysteriously missing bottle of ketchup? lol

This was probably a very long time ago lol. Don’t remember but don’t think we ever found it.

@porwest could’ve been left in the shopping cart by accident. Maybe it had fallen out of the bag and we didn’t notice.

@lovebuglena Well, that sucks. Probably left it in the store or something. I hate when things like that happen. To no end, actually.

I have had that experience too. I was missing something last week, not sure what it was..but when I went to the car..it had rolled out of the bag..and was wedged somewhere in the car.

I took your ketchup. I am a ketchup thief. I'm sorry, I just can't help myself.

Hopefully it will be in the car. It will be annoying if it's not and you need it.

OMG! You sound like me with a bag of washers...not the kind for washing clothes but the little round things with the holes in the middle that you use on screws and bolts and things like that...the ones you buy in the hardware department. I use them in making teddy bears. I bought four bags but only had three in my bag when I got home. I looked everywhere including my purse. I couldn't find them. I searched the path from our truck to the house with a flashlight that night and couldn't find them. I was going nuts. It was a $1.38! Like you it wasn't the money as much as needing the washers. I finally gave up and decided that I would just buy another bag of washers. Two days ago I reached into a bag of cat food and treats and grabbed the cat treats and there was the bag of washers. I have no idea how it got there, but at least I didn't lose my marbles and the bag of washers. I have a feeling that you did move the bottle of ketchup in the cart, that it's somewhere where you would least expect it to be...and when you buy another bottle you'll find the one you lost (that's what happens to me!). Or else you have a ghost that loves ketchup.

Glad you found your washers. You don't want to lose your marbles. I checked the two bags from the store and they are both empty and folded. Not sure if you are familiar with Lidl but there you pack your own bags. I told hubby to put everything in the cart and then start packing so as not to hold up others checking out 'cause we had many things to bag. I definitely remember there was nothing left in the conveyor belt. Maybe when he was moving stuff from it to the cart he placed the ketchup somewhere on the cart where it was hard to spot. Besides the main top part there was a compartment underneath and to the side. But I am hoping that it was somewhere on top of the bag and fell out in the car while we were driving.

@lovebuglena I know that feeling. I have a lot of stuff to pick up that fell out of the bags from last night. We went to town yesterday and I found stuff that fell out of the bags in the trunk so I know there will be more. We only got out the stuff that was perishable because it was so late. I'm going to finish the unloading this afternoon. I always check under the seats because of the windy roads and the hills that we have to go over. Plus there were several sudden stops that we don't normally have. One of them was a neighbor had a party and someone got their truck stuck on a hillside. I'm not too sure how he managed to do it, but all of the party goers were in the road-there were about 50 of them- so we had to do a quick stop. I've had times where the checker has put things in an area where you don't normally take things from, luckily I remember them as ours and grab them before we go off and leave without them. It's a long drive for us to go back to town and get them if we don't have them in the bag. A $1.38 bottle of ketchup would turn into a $20 bottle after figuring in the fuel and everything else. I really hope you find the darned thing.

@BearArtistLady They say if you don't look for it (whatever it may be) it appears. I will do that. Maybe it will still pop up somewhere, though I doubt it. I don't think it's worth it to go back to the store. Besides, I'd be scared to go up to the manager and be like I bought ketchup from you last week. It's on the receipt, but the ketchup is missing...

That sucks. I haven't kept any item behind in a grocery store before but I have forgotten to take the change many times (as I mostly buy through cash)

The store called me once and let my know I left an item there. That was nice. Did you ever find it? Does me commenting here help you?
