Last whole week we again had heavy rains and half the city was flooded. I had gone to work as usual on Tuesday and the downpour just increased later. By noon there was so much water all around us that it was difficult for us to get out of the building. No vehicle was able to come in to rescue us either We were stuck till the water receded and we could get the cars out of the premises. There were a couple of casualties in our area but luckily I and my colleagues were all safe. Have attached a photo I took from the window next to my workstation

@birjudanak Unfortunately the water accumulated near my building was very dirty water that overflowed from a river close by. That's why I did not even attempt to wade out and waited till the water receded completely.

Cannot see that happening. With people wanting to own multiple homes more and more buildings are being built and cities are just being converted to concrete jungles.

@allknowing yes deforestation has been one of the major reasons of these floods and poor drainage as in the case of Patna city.

@allknowing when did the Governments did much for the people in India. And even if some folks come with good intentions, the Central and State Officials and the overall machinery does not implements things properly.

Some of the casualties could have been avoided if the people had been more careful but now nothing can be done about it.

@mayka123 I know what you mean, people do dangerous things and they do not listen to the warnings.

It looks like fortunately your workstation is high up. If I worked there I think I would have a change of clothes, a sleeping bag, and a bit of food and water that I kept there. (Actually I have got those things at my office at school, kind of like an emergency kit only one that you don't carry.) My main problem would be earthquakes and not floods, and in fact when it floods my building does flood and my office is in a basement.

My office is on the 6th floor so we were safe up. Luckily my office arranges for food and water in such situations so we don't have to worry much. We were getting our tea/coffee and food on time. Have never experienced an earthquake and don't want to be near one.

@mayka123 That is a nightmare. That must have been very scary. I was in a flood once. I lived in a basement apartment and all 4 basement apartments were flooded. The water got to the middle of my door. I was rescued by firemen and it was a mess. I moved to an apartment on a hill but had a nightmare that water was coming in there and went to the dorro and opened it and no water.

I often think of solutions and one solution is keep parking areas separated from the main areas and use all the plastic to make large pipes and attach pumps to them at various places, transport this water back somewhere where there is shortage of water through these pipes...but I may be thinking something stupid.
