Timeshare bought me vacations for life.

I have heard many people that have told me that they were offered timeshares, but that they did not dare buy them.
I have been lucky with mine. I went to Aruba for the first time over 25 years ago invited by some friends.
My husband was already ill, but I saw that in Aruba he was so happy that he looked more healthy. Then they were selling timeshares in payments during 5 years: I bought a week there. The only yearly payment for each week was the maintenance and some government payments and that meant that I can be in a 5 star resort for the price of a cheaper one.
For some extra amount of money, I can save a week to be used together or I can use it in another part of the world.
When I go with friends it is still less expensive as we share the costs. My apartment is for 4 people.
I have gone to Aruba several times (I love it) but I have also changed my timeshare to go to Spain, to several parts in the US, to go to Buenos Aires and Bariloche in Argentina, Cancun in Mexico and Camboriu in Brazil.
I would not have been able to have these vacations if it weren´t for my timeshare. I feel that, in a way, it is one of the many things that my late husband left me.

@JudyEv I´m still getting benefits from it and I am 74 years old. But not all timeshares are the same.

@marguicha Good idea but we're probably a bit old now to get any real benefit from it.

My timeshare has a maintenance of around $850 for the week. There are accommodations for up to 4 people in my unit.

@LadyDuck Some of them are better than others. One of my friends wants to sell a unit from Marriott. And the maintenance is over $1.600. I said no way.

@marguicha Some of our clients are now paying almost $1800 per year and even if there are accommodations for up to 4 people they are always only two to go there. They paid from 15,000 to 20,000 to buy and now they prefer the hotel because they have breakfast served, linen changed every day and so on. Hard to get rid of those units, unless to offer them for a very cheap price.

I am delighted that the time share has worked out for you so well. I think in a way your late husband gave you these destinations. Aruba is one of the Dutch Islands so that it has stunning architecture. It also has soft sandy beaches and green palm trees.

My fiance thought about getting one so we could go to Disney, but he didn't get one.

It is not worth it if you want to go on one vacation. But having a timeshare means you can have vacations once a year or, like myself, every two years.

I bought one week a year ot a resort. It is mine, but I have to pay each year for the maintenance of the unit. What I bought is an apartment for 4 people, There is a pool and maintenance includes the cleaning of the unit and towel change.

@marguicha I would never own one. Not in a million years. Total waste of money. But that's just me.

How neat, something to make you think right there. I am glad your husband left you such a neat gift. One cannot say he was not looking out for you.
