Unexpected Visitor in the Yard

Was out watching the bluebirds yesterday splashing around. I saw this rabbit hiding in the cypress trees. I see them often in the spring but not lately. Funny, the rabbits will freeze when you see them. They will stay still for minutes without moving. Survival instinct kicks in. I managed to get a photo but I was on the deck and only had my phone camera, so it is a little hard to see. I love seeing all the wildlife in my backyard. Makes my day. Enjoy your day!

I see it! It might be looking for water. I have plenty of rabbits, they ate my garden, well my green beans.

Maybe so, no water around here except for the birds. Many have problems with them eating their gardens.

Lucky shot! I, too, enjoy seeing the wildlife here. I live maybe 3 streets from downtown, and we get a surprising number of them from the woods out back. Not many bluebirds around here, though, as they prefer more open places.

I put up a bluebird house each year and usually have two families raised each spring. The robins got here first this year and chased them away. First time in about eight years I had no bb families. But they are coming to the bird bath now. I see rabbit all spring in the yard. Some over the summer like this one.

@CarolDM How nice! I have seen bluebirds here a few times and gotten a few photos of them. But they're a rare site, as they are easily outnumbered by all the other species of birds that live around here.

@Raelove That is exactly why I put up a house made specifically for them.

I wonder what the rabbits of Naria can do. The beavers can talk.

I love seeing bunny rabbits in the yard. Luckily, Molly is not fast enough to catch them.

They make me happy to see them. I bet back in the day Molly would given them a run for their money.

@CarolDM I had put out a half-eaten chicken drumstick thinking that the cats around here might enjoy it. At about 3 AM I heard a noise and looked out the window of my front door,. A possum was running off with the drumstick in its mouth

I get rabbits off and on all year, but it's a bit weird...they'll show up several days in a row, then I won't see them for a bit, then they show up again

Mine have good places to hide. They don't like to be out for long at a time. Hawks are in the area.

Sometimes the roos will freeze if they see me in the kitchen. I freeze too then it's a matter of whether they decide they were seeing things and they'll go back to eating or they'll decide it's too risky and they'll leave.

Although they can leave a bit of a mess behind, I always loved seeing rabbits in the yard. We used to have a jackrabbit that would make an appearance in the field behind our home years ago. Our son was young when he was around, and he would marvel at the speed that rabbit could hop and how long he looked as he was leaping away.
