1970's Nostalgia- What Do You Remember?

If you were around in the 70's there were definitely some fads and events which took place that you can remember vividly, perhaps even fondly. Here is a brief recap of some cultural, technological, political and just plain silly stuff which were part of that decade.
Comment on any or all of these or list one of your own....
-1. Gas Station Lines- If you were driving a car then there was an oil crisis created in 1973 and subsequently gas stations with limited gas supplies. Perhaps you recall the odd/even day system for getting gasoline imposed by the government.
-2. Roller Disco Parties- I was not part of this fad but I do remember it well. I believe it was even popularized in movies?
-3. Phones with extension cords- Many households only had one phone in a central location. For those families with teens what a battle for phone usage! Thank goodness for wireless cell phones.
-4. Six Million Dollar Man TV show- You kind of wanted to run in slow motion after watching it, lol. And I remember the neat sound effects when he would leap or do some other outrageous physical feat.
-5. Vacation Trips with Siblings- How did we pass the time on those long drives with our parents without I pads or Smartphones to keep us company? Perhaps teasing our brother/sister and annoying them?
-6. Saturday Cartoons- Back then that was the day to watch your favorite Bugs Bunny, Flintstones or Road Runner cartoon. That was the only day they were on TV so If you missed it, you missed it until next Saturday.
-7. The Watergate Hearings- Required TV for those college Political Science majors and many of us who were wondering just what is going on in the White House? Would this scandal eventually be linked to Richard Nixon was the question on many American's minds back then.
-8. Short Shorts and Tube Socks- What were we thinking? Socks up to our knees for the guys and shorts way to tight for girls. For most not a flattering look at all or to use some slang "not cool."
And that's just a few of the "Groovy" things the 70's had to offer,

They say if you remember the 70s you weren’t there.
(They said that about the 60s too, didn’t they?)
1. I don’t remember those too explicitly because when they were happening (73-74) I wasn’t driving. Florida did have the even/odd setup (if your license plate ended with an even number you could fill up on even numbered days; if it was odd you got gas on odd-numbered days). I remember how the “gas wars” disappeared then, morphing into what we have now (everybody has the same price). Ah, but we had 50c-a-gallon gasoline!! (And complained about the outrageous price....
)
2. I roller skated in the 70s, but no disco. Not then, not now, not ever. One of my favorite songs to roller skate to, believe it or not, was “Evil Woman” by ELO. (I also liked skating to “Living Thing” by them.)
3. Ah, get away from the phone and walk around while talking. A harbinger of things to come.....
4. Lee Majors is from Middleboro, Kentucky. I never watched that show, though (although I do remember the “$6.98 Man” spoof on The Electric Company). I basically watched M*A*S*H (until Wayne Rogers left), old British TV shows on an independent station, and that’s about it.
5. My brother is nearly seven years older than I am, so in 1971 he was in the Navy. Our vacation trips were in the 60s.
6. Overture, curve the lights, this is it, the night of nights! I was kinda bummed when “live action” shows started creeping into my Bugs Bunny routine (although I did have a crush on Jackson Bostwick, who played Captain Marvel on Shazam!).
7. Yes, I remember the Watergate hearings. They pre-empted Match Game ‘74!!!
8. Not into either “fashion” trend. And then there were bell bottoms, too. I remember posting a Gordon Lightfoot video from 1978 or so, and I apologized for the bell bottoms he was wearing!

Wow, nice of you to give a run-down on all 8 items and I can definitely relate to some of those answers. Yes, Gas prices almost as cheap as a Mc Donald's burger. Did not know Lee Major's birth state. I second the no disco skating. Ah, the Watergate hearings, my college roommate never went to class because he spent his day watching them. And bell bottoms, a fashion look I actually liked. I miss seeing my tie-dyed brown bells
Here are a couple more 70's fads:
1. Deciding which Charlie's Angel was the hottest.
2. The Dorothy Hamill bowl cut haircut fad after she won the Olympic figure skating medal.

Our little Nevada town had no roller rink, otherwise, I vividly remember all of this. You forgot the Freedom Train!

Deciding which Charlie's Angel was the hottest.
Hitchhiking a ride.
Using rolled up Silly Putty to reproduce newspaper cartoons on.

Oh yeah. I remember tripping over that long phone cord more than once.
We all filled up those tanks on our even or odd days and it would last a while. I had a Gremlin back then which got pretty good gas mileage.
GROOVY??? We were way past that word by 1970, the new slang words were Outta Sight, F**king A, Dig It and other weird things. Boy were those the days.
Oh, you forgot to mention Hot Pants, I even tried to wear those to work but my boss objected

@dgobucks226 The commercials was surely an American thing and I never heard of Dorothy Hamil cut, we had the Vergottini cut in Italy in the 70's from a famous singer. Nobody was concerned about sunscreen in Italy in the 70's, exactly as we are not in our day. Mediterranean skin does not fear the sun.

That's was an interesting way to conserve gas during the oil crisis. Do you also remember these?
-Less concern over using sunscreen.
-Overplayed commercials like The Coca-Cola's "I'd like to teach the world to sing" or the Band-aid one "I am stuck on Band-aid because Band-aid's stuck on me."
-The Dorothy Hamill bowl cut haircut fad after she won the Olympic figure skating medal.

@LadyDuck In case your curious here is a photo of Dorothy's haircut. I believe the term was a "wedge cut?"
Good for you on the sunscreen. It is an expensive item in the U.S. At least I think so...

In the retrospect of old age, I forget the bad times and dwell on what was great in the 70s and that I didn't appreciate it at the time.

Wow, is Lee Majors that old??? Here are a few more you may know:
-The Dorothy Hamill bowl cut haircut fad after she won the Olympic figure skating medal.
--Antenna "rabbit ears" on the TV and having to adjust them to get better reception.
-Avoiding the water after the movie Jaws premiered in the theatres.
-Overplayed commercials like The Coca-Cola's "I'd like to teach the world to sing" or the Band-aid one "I am stuck on Band-aid because Band-aid's stuck on me."

Yes, I think they had those promotions in the 70's at gas stations. They even did green stamps at one time! Here are a few more 70's events:
-Typewriters-Before e-mail and texting you contacted friends by typing or writing a letter.
--Taking selfies in a phone booth (not your phone).
-Smoking in public buildings and second hand smoke.

I remember most of those. I loved my bell bottom jeans back then. Did any of you wear the tunic dresses over shorts? The dress was longer than the shorts, but had a split on each side so the shorts showed.
