Strange Phone Call

Some of you know about the daily conversations I have with my 90 year old dear uncle. Early this morning he called me. A little unsettling as I always call him. He told me he was waiting as his number has just been called. Tried talking to him asking if he had been dreaming again. He was very adamant about his thoughts. He is waiting and ready. Here I am 500 miles away. I told him I loved him and would call him later. Very sad when our loved ones start to give up.

It is sad when our elderly relatives start to give up. Hope when you call him he's more lucid and that he was just dreaming.

@CarolDM it's not easy being so far away from your uncle. I feel the same way when I call my aunt who is 95 and lives alone

@CarolDM Alzheimer and dementia are very similar I think. Is he doing any medication?

It is so hard trying to figure out what he is trying to say. Then on other days he seems better. He has vivid dreams and he is ready to go.

@CarolDM Hopefully your uncle is just missing his wife when he is talking like that.

It is sad. Does he get any visitors and have daily activities? If he just sits waiting, it's probably why he's ready.

He is not able to have either, too weak. He lost his wife a couple of months ago. He is done.

He lives alone but has his wife's daughters check on him and an aide, and a retired nurse recently started staying a few days and nights a week.

Didn't mean to make you sad, just talking about what happened. It is a very sad situation when your loved ones are dying and nothing you can do but listen.

It has been gradual and it breaks my heart every time I hear him as he was always in charge and control of everything around him. Such a strong man. He lives alone but has his wife's daughters check on him and an aide, and a retired nurse recently started staying a few days and nights a week.
