Ode to Max,

Yesterday Max lost his battle with feline leukemia.
I tried to help him gain weight but he just couldn't I suppose and it's not for lack of trying, he ate when I'd feed them and I always fed them soft food so he wouldn't have to chew.
I think he was 19 years old. This is the hard part of taking care of pets.
Meetzee was upset yesterday but seems ok today, I'm sticking close to home for her sake, she and Boobear don't get along and I think Meetzee needs company right now so I'm it.
Does anyone know what I should do to comfort a grieving kitty?

Just comfort the kitty as best you can by showing you pet some love. I am sorry for the loss of your cat Max. He may be gone physically. But the memories of your care of Max will be in your heart.

I've lost 10 over the years but Max and Spunky are the only 2 I did not have euthanized @Deepizzaguy It always hurts, each took a piece of my heart with them.
I'm so sorry for your loss, if this was the first time then it must have really hurt.

@rebelann You are welcome since I have been there and done that with the loss of my dog Poochie earlier this year.

So sorry to hear this. Best to think of Max now chasing butterflies in the fields of heaven. You will probably feel him near you for a while expressing his love. Hopefully, this link can help you Virtual hugs

Thank you. I think I'll tell you all what I learn, I suppose it'll take a few days for her to realize he's gone.

Thank you.
I'm not really sure if they are all grieving, but I do know that Meetzee is, Max was her buddy all her life and I think she is somewhere between 14 and 17 years old. She seems ok mostly but I have only had her with me for 3 years so I don't exactly know as much about her as I would like, she was mom's kitty.

so sorry sweetheart I know your pain
I lost my Coco dog 2 yrs or so ago. Sounds like you are doing the right thing with your other kitty.
you are comforting each other. When I lost my Bear another dog, I had Coco and we comforted each other. So much easier then loosing her. with no one to comfort me. You got this girl praying for you.

@rebelann I get attached to all of them too quickly. But I did have Bear for 8 of his 10 yrs and Coco all 14 of hers.

Oh @rebelann ; I'm so sorry. In today's world that's pretty good to live to 19. Extra love and playtime with Meetzee should help. I've lost so many; it's painful every, single time.

Thank you, you're right it is always painful even when you know it's close at hand. Mostly though it's hard on Meetzee. Hopefully she'll be ok in a few days, I've heard most kritters don't grieve as long as people do, I know dogs don't.

It's going to take a while for Meetzee that is for sure @nanette64 She grew up with Max, she is somewhere between 14 and 17 years old, I'm not really sure and Max was always her buddy.

@rebelann Yeah, Kaibutsu turned on the daddy role when the other 2 were dropped off at my mailbox when they were only 6 weeks old. They use to sleep on his huge 150-lb body and swing from his jowls. It sounds like it's gonna take awhile for them.

My condolences on losing Max. I have a cat myself at the moment and I love pets as well. My sister lost her two cats last year back to back. I think the male cat, Tiger, missed when the female cat, Tigress, passed away first. Tiger was younger than Tigress, so we think he just gave up. I only have one cat because I can't see myself being able to support two in my current circumstances. I think you're doing the right thing by just being there for your pet(s). Like humans, sometimes just being there is enough.

Thank you.
I'm so sorry you sister went through double loss last year, I can't imagine going through 2 deaths so close together.
I think Meetzee will be ok, she's enjoying her new bed and has a good appetite, I've heard that pets will stop eating when grieving.

@rebelann You're welcome. Yeah it was a lot. My niece didn't take it so well. But they pushed through and now have two new kittens.
Glad that Meetzee will be fine. But yes. Tiger did stop eating once Tigress passed. We feel he totally gave up.

Thank you. I do not want her to get hurt which is why she is in the house but I am here with her so if she needs to seek comfort I will be here.
