Poetry, pies and port tomorrow - I'll be away most of the day

We’ll be away most of tomorrow. We’re leaving early to go to a busy bee to prepare for the State Championship Endurance Ride which will be held in a week’s time. Are you familiar with a ‘busy bee’? Anyone who can turns up to do whatever work is necessary to prepare for the actual day. They will also be marking the course for the horse-riders and we’ll have the chance to start thinking about where we need to be to get the best photos on the day. Once we’ve helped out there, we need to come home, change then travel to Yabberup where the annual ‘Poetry, Pies and Port’ evening will be held. Those who wish too can take a poem to read or recite, everyone takes a sweet or savoury pie and their choice of drinks. Using ‘port’ gives a nice alliterative title to the evening but most will take beer or wine. Tea and coffee will be available free and usually there is a big pot of soup too. Vince has made two chicken and mushroom pies but we might have one tonight for our dinner. We don’t need to take two to the poetry night. Don’t they look good?

We're not going now. Vince's cold has flared up so we'll be woofing them down ourselves.

I just 'cook' when I'm cooking but Vince takes a lot of trouble with the presentation. It does make a difference - the little touches. Thanks.

@JudyEv That is the artistic side of him that we see in his photography coming out in his cooking.

@thelme55 If we have them too often, our waist becomes a 'waste-line'!

We're not going now as Vince isn't well. We have a fair idea of the tracks they'll use and we'll get there a day early next week and drive some of them. Yabberup is a great little community and are always running something in their little hall.

@JudyEv and they would be especially weird to those from other countries and sometimes even the cultures or words used in the same counties can be different.

The pies look great. And sound great too. I need to learn how to make savoury pies. Yapperup. I have no idea where the name comes from, but I hope that I am not the only person who does a double-take at it.

@JudyEv How funny! We have some odd names up here too, the original Native American that was mixed up with Dutch, then ran headlong into the Queen's English. Such as Poughkeepsie. Wallkill.

Vince made it up out of his head but it' basically diced chicken, onions, mushrooms and some herbs thickened with packet soup. He cooked all that first then put it in a bought pastry shell, added a pastry top and baked it.
