I told a fib - we're not going anywhere

We’re not going anywhere today after all. Vince has been fighting off a cold for about ten days now and it has freshened up. It is a miserable day and being out in the wind and cold wouldn’t be good.
Then, one of the ladies running the Poetry, Port and Pies night is a good friend of ours but currently under treatment for pancreatic cancer which is one of the very deadly ones. The last she, or we, would want is to have some coughing and sneezing around her so we’ll be lighting the fire and staying home.
There is always an upside. We now have two pies to eat! We had half a one last night and it was yummy. Eating another one and a half over the next few days will be no trouble at all.
The photo shows First Fleet Paris, my nephew’s pure-bred Nigerian Dwarf buck. The breed originally came from Africa (Nigeria) but most of those in Australia originated in America. Paris has a very nice temperament and is quite gentle although entire males of any species can never be fully trusted.
My nephew has an iron feeding scoop which has been broken almost in half when he had to use it to fend off another dwarf buck which attacked him.

@ilocosboy They can do a lot of damage with their horns. There are 8 or 10 does in the one area and if they all had horns, they could easily hurt each other. They fight among themselves quite a lot although they have a big area to roam in.

That is a handsome goat pic. Sometimes you just have to take a break and relax..home in front of the fire sounds good. It seems like Vince should be over his cold by now though..I wonder if he has a sinus or bronchial infection or something?

I think you are wise to postpone your travel at this time. You can relax at home, enjoy the pies, and let Vince continue to heal!

That's sad you guys can't make it to get together with her because of Vince's cold but definitely better to keep any germs away from her. That's good you guys enjoyed the pie he made so much and have another one to eat.
How come the horn has been cut off the goat in the photo? I believe at a animal sanctuary we went to they said their horns need to be trimmed but I could be wrong.

We have made arrangements to meet up with her once Vince is better.
All the goats are dehorned as they can do a lot of damage to each other if they all have horns. They have a pecking order in the paddock and the weaker ones could easily get hurt if all the goats had horns.

bless her heart! one 'f the worst types 'n i feel fer her 'n all who love her deeply. nope, she certainly doesn't need a cold 'f any sorts. most thoughtful fer y'all to stay home from that, too. many folks i know here'd not use that consideration...
yepperz, 'tis good he baked those 2 beauts! no doubt loads 'f nutrition to help battle that cold 'n most tasty so's ya won't need to worry 'bout 'em goin' to waste.
aw, what a handsome fella! so interestin' that they're imported from here'n the u.s. 'nstead 'f nigeria. though, such might be wiser? i'm so goat illiterate, so really 'ppreciate all the info ya share 'bout 'em. yepperz, particularly the humans!
i've been most fortunate with my boys, havin' my bluff 'tis sure come'n handy quite a few times o'er the years. hope yer nephew 'twas not injured.

The small goats would hit you about knee-high I reckon so he's lucky he didn't have a broken leg out of it. And yes, pancreatic cancer is one of the worst types to get. She was doing quite well but now isn't responding so well to the chemotherapy.

@crazyhorseladycx It's very sad but there is no way she'll recover. We saw her in the chemist's this morning and she is due to start a more severe chemo regime on Wednesday.

Good advice! And we did just that. Our friend's immune system would be way down but I hadn't thought about Vince picking up something else as well.

Thanks. He needs to stay where it's warm until he gets properly rid of this cold.
