There are many items today that you just don't need anymore. Popular past products you've bought have just outlived their usefullness and are a waste of money today. These Items that you just couldn't live without are outdated or soon-to-be obsolete; and it's stuff that you just don't need to begin with. Here is a recommendaton of 8 items to avoid purchasing to get you started: 1. INDIVIDUAL MAGAZINES- At $4 a pop in the grocery counter checkout it's better to buy a subscription. Especially if you really enjoy reading that magazine. For example, $20 can buy you 12 issues of your popular magazine and some companies even offer promotional rates for much less. 2. IDENTITY THEFT INSURANCE- Paying $100 or so a year for credit monitoring and fraud insurance is expensive when your bank and credit card companies monitor the same thing for no fee. 3. EXTENDED WARRANTIES- Products often break after the extension period and, even if not, repairs might cost less than the warranty. 4. PRE-PORTIONED PRODUCE- Pre-cut fruits and vegetables have outrageous price markups. Better to purchase the food whole and do the cutting at home. 5. FABRIC SOFTENER AND DRYER SHEETS- Adding baking soda to the washer before starting the cycle keeps clothes soft, and drying on low heat prevents static cling. 6. BREAD MAKER- A regular oven turns out a delicious loaf of homemade bread. 7. LOTTERY TICKETS- odds of winning are 175 million to 1. I guess the thought of "why not me?" makes one throw their money away me included. 8. NEWPAPERS- With online websites you can get your news there. Now it's you turn. Care to play along and add to the list. What products have you finally stopped wasting your money on? Source- cheapism.com Photo- pinterest.com

I would put most kitchen gadgets on the list, especially electric ones. Simple spoons, bowls, knives and such will usually do everything the gadgets do. But if you already have them use them. No sense going to dust and rust. On the lottery tickets, I only by one or two every now and then and call myself supporting the pre-k program. lol Hell I used to spend more than that on gum.

True, one can spend several dollars a week on gum, etc.

That's true about kitchen gadgets. Most are fancy replacements for things and are not necessary. I'm the same with lottery tickets. I limit my purchase to once a month now and occasionally when the jackpot is huge. What's you opinion on this wasteful item? GYM MEMBERSHIPS

I still buy lottery tickets now and then. Like you said, "why not me?"

You took the words right out of my mouth Here are a few other items: TAKEOUT- Although convenient it can get expensive. Spend one day cooking larger portions so the family has food ready to go for a few days at a time. DESIGNER BRANDS- purses and other accessories can be quite expensive versus a similar style at a bargain price. TOYS- Keep the amount in perspective. Kids outgrow them and eventually get bored too.

I'm doing good as I don't waste my money on any of those. I always made bread the old-fashioned way. Kneading it by hand and putting it in the oven. There's nothing like the aroma of fresh out of the oven homemade bread. I have a full video cabinet of movies. You can now purchase a card and get them downloaded on Vudu. Or buy them on Vudu and download them. Either way, it gets rid of the video cabinet.

@dgobucks226 Yes, you can. I don't read either online or paper newspapers. I'm glad you liked my suggestion.

I agree, nothing like oven baked bread! Good suggestion on solving the video movie problem. Have to check that one out! Here is another wasteful item in today's world- NEWPAPERS- With online websites you can get your news there.

That's a good list but you'll never stop people buying lottery tickets despite the odds against them ever winning.

Very true! Many of us have a bit of a gambling jones in us, lol. I limit my purchase to once a month now and occasionally when the jackpot is huge. Here are a couple more we could add to the list: SPECIAL EXERCISE CLOTHING- Yes, you will look good, but an old T-shirt, shorts or pants work just as well at the gym. Besides the clothing just gets sweaty anyway, lol. NEW CAR- The value of a new car depreciates so rapidly after purchasing it. An alternative is buying a used car which is only a year old.

I have a vegetable steamer that I have used maybe 3 times in 10 years. Silly, to have it taking up space. I do like the bread maker for mixing dough, but it bakes better in the oven. We love the ricemaker, Yonanas, and Soda Stream. I haven't bought an instapot or airfryer to avoid the plague of excess stuff, but I keep thinking about it. I borrow magazines from the library.

@dgobucks226 we got rid of our landline, however out here in the country we don't always have service. Also we would have to pay a lot to have enough internet to stream shows. We borrow DVDs from library too. And use the PVR a lot. Depends where you live for some things.

Yes, the vegetable steamer has got to go, but I have a friend who just bought an air fryer and the chicken she made in it was delicious Good idea about the library for magazines! Here are a couple more items worthy of the list: LANDLINE- if you haven't already replace that expense with a cell phone plan tailored to your needs. DESIGNER BRANDS- purses and other accessories can be quite expensive versus a similar style at a bargain price. DVD's and CD's- With streaming and download purchases they are obsolete and more expensive.

I don't generally buy the newspaper, but sometimes the coupons make a weekly purchase worthwhile, and it is silly not to buy it.

I agree the paper on occasion will have a coupon on an item I buy but I found an alternative. I found an online site called where I can search and print coupons accepted by the grocery stores I shop at...

The last item is for me because I just read the online version of the 3 major newspapers here.

Precisely! I stopped receiving my local paper a few years ago. Another wasteful expense is ordering TAKEOUT- Although convenient it can get expensive.

Air freshers. My mother bought me some charcoal bags which do help clean the air. The charcoal bags lasts up to 2 years.
