About my ID--my driver's license

I submitted my documentation to Textbroker, and heard back quickly. It seems that my driver's license is expired, they cannot use it. I am glad they told me. Yesterday, after I got off the bus, I hurried back to town to the courthouse, trying to be on time to renew my license. I do not drive a lot, but I hate to be expired, just in case I would be stopped. I got to the courthouse in time. . . AND. . . the driver's license system in the computer had been down all day. I could not renew it. Monday, they are closed. I guess it will be Tuesday before I am "legal" again.

I had to renew mine before August and boy what a shock when I found out I had to have my birth certificate and SS card with me, which I didn't so I had to go back and the rest is a long story.

You must have been getting what is called a "real ID" which is good for traveling and entering Federal buildings. I have that option, if I want to go look for things.

@rebelann We do not do that unless we want the enhanced version, which becomes mandatory next year.

They could have given you a paper to cover you for the next few days. Be careful if you do drive.

Nope, won't do that. I will get a temporary when I pay. I have a lot of driving to do Monday, that is why I was in such a hurry. Taking sis to an appointment. An hour from my house to hers, forty five minutes to the appointment, same back to her house, and then an hour home.

Oh my goodness, I hope it's not too bad if they stop you and your license is expired.

I have not been stopped in years. I suppose it would depend on what they would stop me for as to whether the charges would be bad.

@GardenGerty The driver license does not expire here, but after you turn 70, they call every 3 years for a medical check up to decide if you can continue to drive or not.

It is a frustrating thing, and I felt so sorry for the lady who was telling me about it. I think she expected me to be mad. I told her it was not her fault.

Wow, driver's license at the courthouse, here the motor vehicle has its own department and the offices are scattered around the state.

I can go to other offices. In other counties it is separate. I just could not make it anywhere before they closed.

Oh the joys of renewing one's driver's license. I did that Thursday. It's a major case of hurry up and wait! I did meet a really sweet gentleman at the application computer that I would have loved to take home with me!!! He was so patient and understanding and we had a wonderful time laughing and teasing each other. I finished filling out the application and went back to the handicapped window, which is supposed to be faster because of the disabilities people have. I had to use my cane because of my having had the shots in my neck Wednesday and my being unstable on my feet. I was in that line fifteen minutes then told to wait in the next area to pay for my license and finish the process. Forty five minutes of sitting I finally got called up to the window. I hobbled up and the gentleman there was so sweet and so angry that I was made to wait so long, by the time I got to his window I was ash white and sick to my stomach. He had me do the eye chart and I found out that my right eye is really bad (I need to see the eye doctor "soon") and he took me to the "cheater" chart so I could pass. Then he took me to the photo section immediately so I could get my picture taken before the 20 people waiting in line. The people were upset but cooled down when he came out and escorted me to the truck, he was really worried about how I was. He was really relieved when he found out that my next stop was the doctor's office (quirk of fate) and the doctor would check me out. The handicapped line is supposed to be a faster line for people that can't stand or sit for long periods of time and he is going to report it to his supervisor. I don't envy you having to get your license renewed. While you're waiting to go in on Tuesday you might want to review the rules of the road if they're online and take the practice tests. Since your license expired you might have to take the test. They ask some really stupid questions that have some odd answers. So it's worth reviewing the rules of the road. Good luck and I hope you don't have any problems getting renewed.

The lady I talked to said since it was only two months there would not be any problem. I bet I have to pay a little extra, though. I think I was a little late four years ago when I renewed. It is getting to be a habit.
