I'm Now a Mrs!

Wedding cake
United Kingdom
October 17, 2019 5:13am CST
I said I would, so I did. I got married yesterday. The picture is of my cake and my bouquet. We had a truly amazing day celebrating my birthday and wedding. I got ready at my sister's house with my bridesmaids - 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters - along with baby granddaughter. We had fun getting ready. Then we went to our ceremony venue - and old gothic building in the city - where my eldest son gave me away and youngest son looked after the rings. My other hall's best friend was best man. The ceremony was small, with just close family and 4 of our friends. We hired a professional photographer for the ceremony. He took pictures of the ceremony itself and then some in another part of the building before taking a few more in the cathedral ruins across the road. Some of us went back to my in-laws for a couple of hours (we took a detour via a pub!) before having some other people join us for the reception at a lovely local venue. We had lots of guests from family, work, and social groups. That's all from me for me for now. I'm going to spend the next few days changing my name on things!

It was a great excuse to get all of our family together. We each have children and he has grandchildren. This was the first time for two years that they've all been together. And there has been the new grandchild since then who we hadn't yet met!

You gave a better response than myself for sure, I find always weird to see people marrying after having lived decades together, but indeed I wish them to continue to have a happy life

@topffer I find it weird that anyone marries at all - but if it's what they want then I am glad they are happy.

Congratulations! It was clearly a wonderful day. Now, please would you tell us what the Feanorian script on the cake says?

@1creekgirl It's a script invented by JRR Tolkein and used in the Lord of the Rings books but that's all I know. I could dust off my copy and try to transliterate it but we can't see the whole inscription!

I'm glad you asked that, I wondered about it, too.

It says 'love is eternal' (it is written in English on the cloth in front). A few people said they were surprised we didn't have more of a Doctor Who theme but we had a gothic theme. Our rings are etched with the words 'Together through time and space', and his wedding ring (and both our engagement rings) have TARDIS blue on them :)

Congratulations ! I suppose marriage is in the air, this weekend a couple of friends in their 70's asked me to be a witness to their marriage. I know them since 40 years and they were already together. So, was it the best day of your life (I always lived in sin so I cannot tell)?

It was one of the best days of my life We hadn't lived together, and there were lots of reasons for us to marry - not least so his parents knew I wasn't letting him go

Thank you. The bouquet was made by a friend - she said I was one of the easiest people she'd done it for! The cake was made by my nephew's girlfriend.

@LadyDuck I didn't really understand a lot of the things. People asked me how I was having my hair - I hadn't even decided if I was having it cut, let alone styled, until about a week before the wedding! I saw a wedding day check-list/emergency list - I didn't know what some of the things on the list were. I think there were about 4 out of 50 things that I actually included! I picked up my dress from a charity shop for £10. My sister-in-law put in a new zip, and my sister steamed out a stain. My flowers were perfect. I wore a head thingy (a black tiara type thing) and my hair was how it landed!

@pumpkinjam I was an "easy bride" too, but I notice that many now are so difficult about their dress, the bouquet, their hairdo. That becomes a stressful day, not a happy day.

So you are now Mrs. PumpkinJam? Congratulations. Can I ask what is written on the cake?

The translation is written on the cloth in front, 'love is eternal'. It's written in Elvish

@ScribbledAdNauseum We did ask if she could write in Klingon or Gallifreyan but I think that would have been a little too difficult/wouldn't fit!

@pumpkinjam I was wondering if love is eternal was the English translation. That is really cute!

I hate that mylot did not upload the pic the way it's meant to be. Nice cake and bouquet though. If you hadn't mentioned that the pic has your bouquet I would have thought that the bouquet was part of the cake and edible. Maybe 'cause I am very hungry right now. Congrats on getting married!

I hadn't realised the picture was the wrong way round. I'm sure it was the right way when I put it on!

@pumpkinjam It's landscape instead of portrait. Maybe mylot is set up to only have pics in landscape orientation and automatically makes pics landscape even if what you upload is vertical.

Thank you. The cake went down well! We might auction off the flowers next year for The Sophie Lancaster Foundation. We asked for donations for them instead of wedding gifts. This got passed on to Sylvia Lancaster (mum of Sophie, and founder of the Foundation), and we've been invited to meet her at a gig nearby.
