Stuff we saw on the weekend

They were short of helpers on the weekend so we manned a point on the endurance ride track. You can see in the photo it’s just in the bush where several gravel roads met. The big, black tubs are drinking water for the horses. The buckets are water so the riders can sponge down their horses if they wish to. There is lucerne hay and carrots available too. There is also drinking water for the riders and lollies/sweets if they want them.
As the riders came through our checkpoint we would note their bib number and the time. We had a two-way radio hooked up to the car battery and we would relay the information back to the ride base at the caravan park.
The last photo shows a beer bottle that someone some time ago upended on a twig. The tree had now grown around it to a degree although it’s a bit hard to see here.
Back at the caravan park, a lot of trees and plants have been planted by the locals. These were protected from rabbits by plastic guards and some had flowering kangaroo paws. There were also a lovely lot of wildflowers out on the ride itself. We also saw a pink and grey galahs' nest in a hollow tree.

@JudyEv You're just a great storyteller Judy! You always have great adventures to write about, even if it is a normal, daily routine. You have a way of turning the ordinary into the extraordinary!

The birds are pink and grey galahs. Maybe I'll write about them. Once, they were only seen in the north but they've made their way southwards and we even have them in our area. These were in the middle of Australia on our way to Uluru.

The endurance ride could be so exciting! What's the prize for the winner?

Usually, there is a horse rug that they receive that has the name of the ride embroidered on it and they might get some bags of horse feed.
