How Many Ways Can We Not Be UNITED?

I love my country. God knows I do. But sometimes I almost wonder if the name should be changed from UNITED States to … DIVIDED and then DIVIDE SOME MORE States. LOL.
I did a quick stidy once about American politica parties and at one time we had about 15 to 20 different parties. Even one time, Dick Gregory ran for President and he didn't represent any party! Which makes me wonder. (??) Do we even need political parties? But that's another discussion.
These days we're down to two parties: Democratic and Republican. Sometimes three: Independent.
But the thing that gets me is … Why aren't those divisions enough?
Why do we also have to have progressives, liberals, conservatives, Red Squad
, on and on and on?
Listen. For me, I can clearly make the distinction between Republican and Democratic. But if you go beyond and start slicing, splicing, dicing, chopping 'em up further … I'm lost!
I don't know what those distinctions mean and I don't see any reason fry my pea-sized brain trying to figure 'em out!!
LOOK! Forget which political party you belong to.
TO: Whoever is an elected official, I only have one question/request:
* Are you going to make decisions that will not interfere with our human right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness AND are you NOT going to drag US INTO A WAR?!!!
You don't have to make any PROMISES or VOWS.
JUST DO WHATEVER IS IN YOUR POWER TO ACCOMPLISH THOSE OBJECTIVES.
CAN YOU WORK TOGETHER TO ACCOMPLISH THOSE OBJECTIVES??
Because it's really too big of a job for one person!
You're not God. You're not Superman or Superwoman. But at least We the People will know you tried your best.
What do you say to that?
(Eh! I know you're not listening. I'm going back to bed.

I like parties, but not political parties
. I'm not particularly politically savvy to understand in detail all of the divisions, but I certainly "feel" how divided this country is on an everyday basis - it's an overall feeling of
. If only they'd get off their high horses and get things done. What happened to a government of the people, by the people, for the people

@cmoneyspinner I would hope that I/we still have our souls . . . but well, the souls are not coming together as well as they should/could be. And then there are souls that seem to have been sold - for power and money - oh the greed! I shake my head - yah, it's not even half a thousand years!
I know, I know - I look for the weather stuff too. It's a must, but even then I sometimes have to question the forecasts

@much2say - LOL. Funny you mention the forecasts. We do put a lot of trust in our weather people, don't we? But I can honestly, growing up in Miami, Florida, the people who reported the weather were good! One time I even remember a particular weatherman who continued to report on a hurricane until the last possible minute. He closed out his final report by saying that he needed to go home and secure his family and his house. By the time he got home, his neighbors had already boarded up the windows and helped his family with other storm preparations. All they had to do was go inside, lock the doors, wait for the hurricane to hit and to pass over. Weaver the Weatherman. I'll never forget him and what his neighbors did for him to say "Thank you!" Is that cool true story or what?

How many other great nations have there been in history? How many were considered a superpower nation? How many of those fell from within? How is the USA any different?
I personally think our division is eventually going to end this country like so many other nations have fallen in the past.

I refuse to believe that. Hey! I can be idealistic and dream.

@cmoneyspinner Maybe not in our life time but I really think it will happen eventually. The Roman Empire lasted 1000 years and fell, I don't see the USA lasting that long if we keep going like we are.
