It's Taco...I mean, Fish Tuesday!

My husband caught some speckled perch and bass in our pond yesterday, so we had a fish fry for lunch/dinner today. (We call lunch dinner and dinner supper.)
I stewed some potatoes and onions, then fried some corn bread and made lemonade while my husband fried the fish.
It was so yummy...he fillets the bass so I can eat it like catfish fillets with no bones.
It takes me a half hour or more to clean up the kitchen, but it's totally worth it.
(Do any of you men cook without causing chaos in the kitchen? Or is it just part of the male DNA?)
Anyway, got the counters and cook stove cleaned, the dishwasher loaded, and the floor swept and mopped. He's gone to one of the fields behind our house to do some deer hunting. Hope he gets one...our freezer needs some venison.
Oh, he has a trail camera back there and today he showed me what was caught by the camera: a huge, really large black bear! He said it might weigh as much as 500 pounds! We've seen them before back there, but not usually that big. Sure hope he stays in the back field. The bear, not my husband.
Hope y'all had a great lunch/dinner/supper or whatever you call it. We do call breakfast breakfast.

I wonder if breakfast is called something different other places? Well, I'm sure it is in non-English speaking countries.

That's a big black bear! We have one roaming on our property in Montana, but I have not met him (or her). The fish sounds yummy. I'm not usually a big fish fan (except for sushi) , but if it's fresh, and the stuff surrounding it good, I can enjoy it.

To me, the only way this meal could have been any better would be if we also had fried catfish.

Oh how I would love to have a fresh fish fry - I'll bet it was yummy! We haven't taken the kids fishing yet . . . my dad used to fish out in the sea but took us lake fishing every now and then. I've never had venison. I can't imagine seeing any deer or bear in our suburb - that would be quite a sight

Yeah, fresh fish is the best. We live out in the country, so we're used to wild life.

@1creekgirl Its been my experience that people who live in the country, mainly farming families, call it dinner and supper. I grew up on a farm, and it was that way because when a farmer was out in the fields at 5:30 am he was hungry at noon and that was a hot meal as he would come back for a slightly smaller supper and then quite often stay out in the fields until 8 or 9 at night. Of course those hours no longer hold true, but when I was a child that was the norm for my Dad.

@Juliaacv That sounds a lot like farming families here in the south, too.

Wow, that's so cool we call it the same things even though we're in two different countries.

@1creekgirl Big bears can be dangerous. We have to watch out for big wild boars here.

We've seen bear tracks in the yard and recently a big truck hit one on the other side of the highway from us.

phew, i thought'cha lost yer southern! jest kiddin'. i get most confused when folks're sharin' their 'dinner' come nightfall.
yers sure sounds yummy'n i might'a e'en drooled a bit'n my shirt, lol. if'n the hubs here e'en makes a can 'f soup, 'tis a kitchen disaster. he feels cleanin' 'tis 'neath his dignity.
mercy, that'd be a very good sized black bear! i hope such stays back there, too. ought'a be gettin' near hibernation time, no? gigglin' 's i'd wished the 'pposite here. preferrin' the bear!

@1creekgirl no ma'am, that'd be one meat i've not tried. i'd so hoped the hubs would'a surprised me'n got 'n elk 'r deer - e'en both. nope, nada. since he left the freezer door open 'n ruined all, 'tis gonna be tough rebuildin' our food supply - various meats, soups, stews, veggies all 'd to be tossed. not a total waste i guess? he cooked the meat'n gave such to the ferals (now they turn their noses to cat chow'n wonder where's the steaks?) 'n the fruits/veggies went to gomer (compost pile). i've heated the soups'n stews'n the ferals got that, too.
yes ma'am, surprisin'ly so, too. my dad 'lways cleaned'p, did whate'er needed doin' - without bein' asked. thankfully my youngest seems that way. takes care 'f the young'uns, does 'round the house, etc.

Have you cooked bear meat? I did one time and it was better than I thought it would be. Men have such fragile egos, don't they? Oh well, all the clean up's worth the fried fish.

@1creekgirl On the farm, both meals were much the same really - meat and three veg kind of stuff. A cooked breakfast and home-made cake and/or biscuits for morning and afternoon tea. It was hard physical work which accounted for the size of the meals I think.

Glad you enjoyed your fish. A black bear could move on as far as I'm concerned!

The only thing he can cook is fish, but he's a keeper, especially after being married 53 years!

That fish dinner sounds so good. I had a couple of egg rolls that I bought at a Chinese take-out yesterday.

When I was a kid, it was breakfast, dinner and tea but now it's breakfast, lunch and dinner. No idea how or when the change came about.
