Happy Birthday!

Yesterday was my daughter's birthday. She turned 20 years old. All she wanted for her birthday was either to go to Disney World or go to a Lightning hockey game. Well, as you can see from the photo, she got one of her wishes (we'll be going to Disney the next two weekends). So that's now twice in one week that we've been to a hockey game.
It was the sweetest thing. She said she didn't care if the Lightning won or lost, she just wanted her favorite player to score a goal. And sure enough, he did! She was jumping up and down and dancing in the aisle when he scored! It just made my heart melt.
I was glad I was able to give my daughter a special birthday treat. Have you ever gone out of your way to give a family member an amazing surprise on their birthday?

That's such a great idea! Scrapbooks are awesome. The kids and I are currently making scrapbooks of all our Disney vacations over the last 20 years. It's quite an undertaking, but going to be so worth it when the project is all completed.

She is beautiful. Happy Birthday to her! You are so blessed Dad. I surprised Dustin with many things. The favorite that stands out was the Brett Favre jersey. He was a huge Favre fan for awhile. I gave him the jersey and then two tickets to see the Titans play the Packers. We were living in Nashville. He was so happy.

That is awesome! I would have been in heaven to receive a gift like that! I had the chance to see Favre play one time, when the Packers went to Miami to play the Dolphins. It was a great game, except for the part where the Packers won!

@moffittjc It was one of those once in a season games when they played the Titans. He couldn't decide which jersey to wear. I wore McNair's and he wore Favre!

Happy Happy Birthday to your beautiful daughter! I’m so glad that she enjoyed her special day, especially seeing her favorite player score a goal.
Yes, I’ve given my husband, kids, and grandkids amazing surprises on their birthdays year after year.

I have to be careful in how I plan surprises for my daughter. She doesn't like surprises at all. She makes it abundantly clear every year as her birthday approaches that there had better not be any big surprises. So I have to ease her into surprises. For example, her first present yesterday was a Lightning magnet to put on her car. Then her second present was a Lightning jersey (the one she's wearing in the photo). And then, finally, her last present was the tickets.

I thought about Disney for her birthday, but realized the Lightning were playing a home game, so I jumped on that opportunity. We have the next two weekends for Disney, so in the end she'll end up getting both hockey and Disney for her birthday!

Happy, happy belated birthday to your daughter! It sounds like she had a blast at the hockey game! With three girls in the house, it was hard keeping secrets about any gifts or surprises. They were tattle-tellers. So we had to just keep our lips zipped.

@moffittjc That's good. I remember one year when someone tattled, I took the gift back and got something different. Now that was a surprise and taught the tattler to knock it off.

That's great that your daughter got two of her wishes for her birthday - and has more to come. Does it make you feel old to have a 20-year-old daughter? Wait till she's 47 - then you'll really feel old. Whatever - a very happy birthday to her.

Congrats to her. She did not want much. That is very nice. I went to Disneyland and loved it. She sounds very sweet. I do not recall getting much from my family. I hope I have done right by my animals.

Happy Birthday to your daughter. That was a wonderful thing for you to go another 2 hours there and back to take your daughter to a game. ... And then she's going to Disney World! No, my husband doesn't like surprises; so I've never been able to do anything special for him.

@porwest If I didn't have annual passes, I would never be able to afford to go there either. Thankfully, I have been a Passholder for over 20 years, so I get tremendous discounts each year when I renew.

@moffittjc I have been to both Disney World and Disney Land. But both times I was a kid. From what I have heard of what it costs to go there, I may never desire to ever visit again.
