The photo has nothing to do with the post. It’s another from the endurance ride we attended recently.
We had a visit yesterday from a man who attended my high school. We’ve met a few times at school reunions. He started school in Fiji where his father worked on a mine, then went to Indonesia then came to Western Australia when it was time to attend high school.
He left school at 15 and doesn’t have any sort of university degree. He was drafted into the army and went to Vietnam to fight. He would be the richest of all my classmates as he was a ‘powder monkey’ (explosives expert) working on mine sites all over the world. He is a lovely guy and doesn’t flaunt his wealth at all but a couple of years ago, he had three Maseratis (one was for sale, he hastened to tell us) and seven Citreon 2CVs.
He called to see us (and bought cake) driving his latest acquisition – a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD twin cab, long wheel base truck with retails here for $A140,000. He has bought a ladder so he can get into the back of it. It is HUGE. As he left, he happened to mention that he has ‘a couple of Chryslers’ in his shed. One day, we’ll get to visit him and see what other vehicles he has hidden away.

I agree, people have got filthy rich without much education in our country.
Some of them have not been through even high schools. Recent election news reports told that some elected members of lagislative assembly were such levels of education but they are rich.

I know a few mechanics but most of them acquire old ramblers, gremlins and other such things and they they put together their own engines from parts out of those old ones. I wish I had paid more attention to being a mechanic, I could have saved myself so much money over the years.

i love folks like that, those who aint so full 'f 'emselves, lol. 'tis nice he came fer a visit'n brought his monster truck. i've a chevy silverado like that, but not a long wheel base - which i now regret. nowhere's near that price tag. 'tis a 2003. the hubs stole't when i fell ill'n couldn't get in/out safely. he's torn the crap out'ta 't, which infuriates me to no end...
this fella jest goes to show that not all who're successful 've lots 'f schoolin' outside 'f life. do wonder what sort'a chryslers he's got stashed't his place...'n others.
those folks looked a tad serious 's they vied fer place i reckon. sure'd love to've some 'f those round bales, lol.

@JudyEv yes ma'am, most unhappy 'bout the state 'f 'ffairs with the truck...jest one 'f many thingies he jest doesn't take proper care 'f.
oh, i bet'cher gonna get lots 'f photos! here the large round bales've a plastic nettin' 'f sorts o'er 'em. i'm still diggin' bits'n pieces 'f those from where the hubs's fed 'em here'n the past - 'n didn't get such out'ta the pasture nor corrals. quite the mess, but i've made good progress this past year. they're a hazard, buried'n the dirt 'n grasses...fer man'n beast. seem a weaker substance than the twine 'n breaks down a bit quicker? i dunno, jest a mess though.
oh, i bet that 'twas a sight! perhaps such a photo 'll show'p sometime. 'tis the troubles with takin' lots 'f pics, some jest seem to disappear? i know i've hunted fer some 'n figured i'd jest not taken what i'd thought 'r deleted 't - jest to find 't 3-5 years later, lol.

@crazyhorseladycx The twine off the big bales certainly makes a mess in the paddock. The grass grows over and around it and it becomes very hard to pull free.

I'm sorry your Chev has been ruined. It must break your heart. When we visit my friend, I'll be sure to take lots of photos. We have smaller round bales too, often enclosed in plastic. I guess perhaps they become silage. In one paddock there was a mix of pinks and blues and they looked like giant marshmallows. I thought I had a photo but I can't find it.

He probably does have too if you think about it and lets say about 20 odd sheds to start with?

@JudyEv there is a certain De Castro here who has more than 30 vintage cars. Obviously he is very rich.

@JudyEv @Alexandoy unless they are very special, vehicles are not generally a good investment as their values depreciate rather than appreciate.

Damn Judy, either Australian currency is seriously undervalued against the American dollar, or he way overpaid for that truck! Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD twin cabs sell for about $36,000 USD here. But it is a sweet truck!

@JudyEv Wow, only 68 cents? I would have thought our two currencies would have been a lot closer together (more equal).

He sounds like a nice friend. Though, I think collecting vehicles is hobby for the wealthy... upkeep and storage and all. Good for him though. :-)

@FayeHazel Yes, license plates. They are even stricter in Ireland and even if the car is licensed it has to be checked every year. That might be only if it is over a certain age. I'm not sure now.

@JudyEv Oh that's interesting. Licensed, like license plates or license tabs? Here there is no car-check before getting license tabs. I had an old car for awhile in disrepair. Decided to get it back up and running. just went to the license bureau.

Collecting cars... Is definitely an expensive hobby and not everyone can do it. My husband is very fond of cars but can not collect them and so he keeps changing it every 5_6 years to experience a new model. But he is in love with this latest one and has no plan to change it now. It's already 6 years old.

@JudyEv I am not so crazy. I am okay as long as it is working and serves my purpose of having a car. Not crazy about make and model.

So much fun but you need to be able to work on them yourself--I would love an old VW van--with an electric engine!
