How was your Halloween?

It occurred to me this morning that I have no cue where Hallowen is celebrated and where it isn't. Is a not given to Halloween in Europe? Or some parts of Europe? I'm sure there are harvest festivals of various sorts--but Halloween?
I had a heart-warming moment last night. Horse Jr. paid me a surprise visit after trick-or-treating with his mom in another neighborhood. I half-jokingly asked him to save some Reece's Cups for me as he was heading out, and he brought me several Reece's Cups when he came home.
The lovely picture attached is my Facebook tradition on Halloween. I didn't take it, but it still gives me a chuckle every Fall. Watched the 49ers game and gave out quarters to the two kids who stopped by.
Did you have a good October 31st?

It used to be celebrated til well in the 17th century, then we had a break. Now it's coming back, but it's much so "buy, buy, BUY!" that I ignore it.
When I studied in Austria we celebrated Alleheiligen und Allerseelen (1.11 and 2.11), as it's a decent Catholic country. Got dressed up as witches and got drunk and had lot of fun, but no walking around trying to get candy from strangers.

@TheHorse Allerheiligen is All Saint's Day and Allerseelen is All Soul's day. I'm sure there was a lot religious things going on, but we didn't notice that much. It was a 3 day Carnival party, great fun.
I think we used to celebrate All Saint's Day here until the reformation worked properly and stopped it.

Windy is the one word I would use to describe Halloween.

The wind was awful here. Many places are doing trick or treat this weekend because of the weather.

@TheHorse It rained all day and then as that stopped it got very windy. I remember taking my boys in snow a couple of times. At least it isnt that cold yet.

Interesting. I remember cool but (usually) not stormy nights in Chicago. Our biggest worry was that the "naughty" kids from the poor neighborhood next to ours would steal our Halloween candy bags, and that we'd have trick-or-treat all over again.

That's the funniest pumpkin I've seen. We had no trick or treaters as usual. We don't celebrate Halloween anyway. That was really sweet of Horse Jr to bring candy for you.

@TheHorse Yeah, we're definitely rural. Our town has about 600 people, two stop lights, one mini-mart, a Dollar General, Post Office, elementary school, and six churches. And we live two miles outside of town.

Our Halloween was more of a trick. The weather was horrible so the trick or treating was postponed until tonight.
Great picture!
Yum Reeces is one of my favorites too.

We took Little Miss out to a couple of places. She made out pretty good. Got a Bible at one place.

@TheHorse There is a country store run by the Mennonite church and the people that lived in this house were Mennonites. They do give out Bibles and religious CDs of music at the store. So I didn’t surprise me when they gave out Bibles and music. There was a couple of pieces of candy in the bag too.

@ElusiveButterfly Ah, well, sounds good to me. A Bible is a good thing to have around, even if you're not religious.

I do not do Halloween at home. At school it was fun, and interesting. Other places consider Halloween to be a more religious day, but I bet some countries have the trick or treat or other beggar traditions.

All I know is saw 2 trick or treaters of kid age and 6 adult Halloween parties. I am like what is wrong with this picture? Another holiday we stole from kids. The rest of people had their lights out like we did, hiding so they did not get any visitors. I am telling you it must suck to be a kid these days. I remember I filled a huge trash bag up with candy when I was kid. You definitely have to go to the nice neighborhoods now, because 75 percent of average people do not do Halloween anymore, unless they going to an adult party.

@TheHorse Please do I am curious, damn Lakers lost, and no Mavericks not that good, they are better than they played. Well, hit a buzzer beater. Good, but could be home sipping a Margarita instead now you have to play overtime.

Made a post about my day. No trick-or-treaters for us. It looks like Halloween will be November 2 because of the bad weather we had yesterday.

Some people in India(apart from Christians) have started celebrating Halloween in line with global trends.
But nobody around me celebrated it.
I just caught hold of a few discussions here and there.

@DianneN You know Maurice Sendak's classic, Where the Wild Things Are, right? In an interview I watched with Maurice Sendak, he said the wild things were based on all of his Aunties, Uncles, Great-Aunties, etc., all of whom wanted to pinch his cheek, and all of whom were quite scary to him. When I look at the "Wild Things," I CAN see my Grandma, Uncle Irving, the Great Aunt who terrorized all of us as children by pinching our cheeks hard, etc.
