What did you do?

When I got home from work I came in long enough to fix coffee in a travel mug, as well as drink some extra water. Then I was off to give blood. The extra fluids make the donation easier. The paperwork and getting in to the system takes longer than the actual blood donation for me. I "bleed fast" and then clot quickly. I am pretty ideal. You mihgt say I "saved three lives" last night. That is how many people are helped from one donation. Afterwards, again, they want you to have fluids and there is an optional meal as well. Traditionally it is a sloppy joe (seasoned loose meat on a bun). There are prepackaged snacks, and juice boxes as well. Some hosting sites have cake, this one did not. After that, while I was in Marion, I went to visit Ann in her new house. The furnace is still not working and people will be in and out fixing it, so the cats are still with me. Ann and I had some "work related" visiting to do that needs to be done privately. Then I came home, worked my sites a bit, and wrote for Textbroker. I stayed up too late, got up too early. The story of my life.

Sounds like you had a pretty good day. I could never give blood being that I'm on blood thinners and because of my heart problem. But glad that you were able too. Hope you have a great day!

That is right. Hubby can no longer give blood due to heart, stroke, cancer issues. I hope you stay well.

There have been times and places where only water, juice and maybe a cookie were available, like when I did platelets. I do not think I have been underweight in about forty five years. I am sorry you have an auto immune disorder. Yes, Ann's furnace needs fixed as it is turning very cold here.

I usually cannot donate because I am a bit underweight and anemic, I have a rare group 0 negative.

I am lucky I have only tested anemic once. Yes, your blood would be very valuable.

@GardenGerty That is great that you saved three lives. I read that someone else is on Textbroker here too.

Oh I wish my veins were ideal. They often send me away because no one can get the rolling vein.

Do they try both arms? My right arm is not a rolling vein, but it is strange. Only time I was ever hurt was the right arm. When I did platelets, which is apharesis where most of the blood constituents are returned I learned that my right vein looks good but then dips and it cannot handle a return.

@GardenGerty Several times. They finally took me into the operating room and gave me local and then after 30 minutes of that they got it in. It's not that I squirm. My Mom had the same issue and they finally put in a port.

That's neat to know one blood donation can help three people. I'd hope they would have a vegetarian meal to give and not just the sloppy joes. Going to cut my dogs toe nails and give her a bath before my kids come home soon.

I have never seen a vegetarian meal, but the juices and some snacks would do for a quick blood sugar boost if needed. Sometimes I have seen fruit.

I wanna try donating blood. Does it hurt?

It is like a little pinch and then nothing. Just sit back a few minutes and rest. You have to be healthy and well to do it though.

It's good that donating blood doesn't create hassles for you.

I feel good because it is one thing I can give, even when I am "poor". It costs me nothing but a little time.

@GardenGerty I used to think that too. It didn't cost anything yet for some, it is so valuable.
