A question and sad news from Victoria, Australia

I found this the other day and kept it out for Vince to fix. It just needs a couple of tiny screws. It struck me that you might wonder that it is and its purpose. Do you know what it is? I’ll tell you in my next discussion. And in very sad news from Australia, an Victorian magistrate aged in his 60s proposed to his 23-year-old girlfriend back in October. This resulted in an immense amount of media coverage together with the inevitable social media furore about the age difference. How it is anyone’s business other than their own beats me but many gave them a hard time. The young lady became depressed, went out for a walk a few evenings ago and was struck by a car. She died from her injuries. This is just so, so sad. Why do people feel they have the right to denigrate others so venomously? I wish they’d just mind their own business.

That's totally not right. Both people were of age and should have been left alone.

That is tragic, age difference is not a big deal in our country, you would probably get a few laughs and teases but that's just about it and it's quite normal.

What a sad story. There are far too many cyber bullies around, I wish there were a way to punish them the same way we'd punish someone in the physical world.

You are correct @JudyEv but I have a feeling that things in cyber world are beginning to change so that these cyber bullies can be caught and punished once and for all.

@JudyEv Stuff like that dont bother me. I had no problem telling them where to shove it. Too bad the 2 of them didnt do that. To get that sad it sounds like she truly cared.

It is a big age gap but it's their business, not anyone else's. I'm sorry you got put down too. It must have been very hurtful.

Oops! I know what it is, and had a racket press for my first wooden tennis racket. Unfortunately, people never mind their own business. What a shame.

Yes, you're right! Well done - but you must be quite old to have a wooden racket!

That is a huge age gap but they are both adults people should have left them alone. The magistrate must be so heartbroken.

It shouldn't be anyone else's business. It's just awful that she was driven to this. It seems likely she stepped out in front of a car rather than it just be an accident.

If it doesn't concern them directly, people should learn to keep their mouths shut.

I just get really irate that they have to poke their noses in to others' affairs. They're not all squeaky clean but they feel they need to go in, boots and all.

@JudyEv I actually hate the attitude of some people in social media. Thise who receive fake news would forwad the same without validating. That's stupidity.

There have always been horrible people. Just now they get a chance to have their voices heard more widely instead of just gossipping to their cronies.

This is what I hate about social media. People are more or less anonymous and can say what they like with impunity. Some are just so vicious with their remarks.

i would be uncomfortable about it, to be honest, but i'm also thinking about the hurt and grief the magistrate and their respective families and friends are feeling now. maybe if he wasn't a magistrate, it wouldn't be national news but it was compounded by the availability of internet and social media now.

@JudyEv I do not know what that is in the picture. Now, I see a picture on the side and it is something to hold a tennis racket. Am I right? As far as the magistrate and his girlfriend are concerned it is none of the media's business. It seems like the media has to create news if they do not have anything to write about. That is horrible what happened to his girlfriend. I am with you. I wish they would mind their own business.
