How bad are gas prices where you live?

California is odd. We have oil refineries everywhere, but gas prices are higher here than just about anywhere else in the Country. Maybe we're paying extra for the privilege of smelling the discharge from the refineries. I know we have strict emissions standards, and higher gas taxes, but recent evidence suggests that oil companies are gouging Californians above and beyond what they have to pay in taxes. I believe our Governor has launched an investigation. How high are gas prices where you live? As I may have mentioned elsewhere, on both of my 2019 Summer trips, I noticed that gas prices decreased in a linear fashion the further I got from California. In both Iowa and Montana, regular gas cost about a dollar less per gallon than here in California. About a month ago, we were paying about $4.55/gallon here. It has now dropped to about $3.85/gallon. Are gas prices bad on the East Coast as well? Inquiring minds...

Actually, read an article where our Governor called some people why is California gas prices going up so much. It is apparently people hate us this much. I will remind people we can fire back also and if the US Trump or anyone wants to play with the 5th largest economy in the world, you might want to stop. Its a dumb way to live. I also wrote a post How I saw gas go over 4 dollars and now its back at 3.85 last time I went. Something is at play here. I could also get by without a car. Keep messing with people's lives you jerks. @TheHorse Sorry had to get that off my chest.
Gov. Newsom has asked the California attorney general to investigate the high cost of California's gasoline.

@crossbones27 Once again, I'm reminded of one of my favorite poems, The Second Coming, by W.B. Yeats. Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity. Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the Second Coming is at hand. The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert A shape with lion body and the head of a man, A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun, Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds. The darkness drops again; but now I know That twenty centuries of stony sleep Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle, And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Glad you did. If they find price fixing, how will I document how much gas I buy when I collect my settlement? I never keep my receipts. Wait. I have my credit card records.

Not high, I got it for 2.22 yesterday, but one thing that surprised me was a county where gas prices are usually quite low had them very high in spots..must be they had not purchased new gas yet at a lower price.

I am in your neck of the woods--and buy it at CostCo when I can--I think I spent $3.69 a gallon last week--

@TheHorse I think that is just about the cheapest I have seen lately. Although Safeway is pretty good as well, especially if you have that 10 cent discount

@divalounger I drive by a Safeway with gas on the way to the College in Pleasant Hill. It always has really good rates.

Judging by the photo you are not asking the price of "natural gas" for heating and cooking but the gasoline we put in our cars. The price of gasoline here is about $5.70 per gallon.

@TheHorse This is the average price of every European country, some are more expensive, like Portugal, Norway, Greece. The Netherland. Here it is called "Benzina" (Italian) "Essence" in French "Benzin" in German.

That is a lot! At least distances to other cities and countries is not that great there. Gas is "petrol" in England, I think. What is it called there?

That sounds reasonable. Were they a bit higher a month ago? I'm not sure what happened here.

I know we pay a lot more than you do but the conversion is too much for me. We're in metric and I think US gallons are a bit different to Imperial gallons. But if you want to do the math, we're paying around $1.45 a litre for petrol and $1.50 for diesel. Our dollar is worth about 69US cents.

Egads. I'd have to do a lot of math. But it is in my comfort zone. Should I bother?

@TheHorse I wouldn't! I couldn't be bothered doing it so there is no reason why you should. Take my word for it - it's more expensive than yours.

@TheHorse I will be talking about gas prices for cooking. We get our gas bills every two months. Our gas bills are not expensive. The electricity bill is what is high for me.

California is always high. Our gas is at $2.59 at the moment. I think that CA is getting the short end of the stick when it comes to fair gas prices. It seems like just because things are expensive in CA, that's an excuse to charge top dollar for gas.
