If the internet were to shut down forever...

If the internet were to shut down forever, and you could only browse through the history of the last site you visited, would you want that site to be mylot or something else?
I am not sure how to answer this question for myself. Part of me would want to be able to browse the archived pages of mylot, but the other part of me would get bored with that.
If it could be a website with stories, and I could read and re-read the stories on that one page.. I might like that better.
What would you pick? Mylot or another site?

Mylot wouldn't be a bad choice. The site I was on previously was work related..and not really browsing friendly.

Yeah. Like, i wouldn't want to stare at the same survey page or even listen to the same music video either. The last site I visited other than mylot was reddit, I guess that wouldn't be too bad.

I might pick Reddit, there is so much to read. I have already read many of the stories from Nosleep and Short scary stories, but I wouldn't mind reading some of them again. There are also many other interesting subreddits.

@ScribbledAdNauseum There are a lot of great stories in Nosleep and similar subreddits. I love the stories that surprise me and end in a way I didn't expect. Sometimes I listen to the stories from Reddit on YouTube while I am doing something else online.

@Porcospino Yes, I've used youtube to listen to stories too, or they have a podcast as well. I haven't checked the podcast out yet.
There was one story I read several years ago, I think it was technically a creepypasta. It wasn't until about a paragraph from the end of the story that you realized it was talking about the devil and Hades

Yes! Reddit is so expansive, it would probably be the best to go. I also peruse Nosleep and shortscarystories.

@LadyDuck We still have checks here, but the places that accept them usually scan them through a validation device and then hand the check back to the customer to destroy it. A lot of people here are using debit cards and the machines where you just insert the card or tap the card against a sensor.
We also have those phone apps that allow the seller to scan the QR code and get paid that way.

Yes, the bank site hadn't entered my mind. We can get paper statements but I feel as if receiving paper statements from banks is mostly extinct. People can so easily go online, it would be hard for most to adjust back to paper statements and balancing a checkbook.

@ScribbledAdNauseum We do not receive paper statements anymore, we have to download from their site. The checks do not exist from at least 15 years here in Switzerland.

That would have a lot of content to peruse through. You'd probably spend days and still have new - to - you content to peruse.

The last website I was browsing was YouTube. I think I'd be entertained with that for quite some time!

Ah, yep youtube has endless content. Of course, they are now hurting their content creators and making it nearly impossible for them to remain on the platform. One of my favorite vloggers has had to seek other means for earning and has all but left youtube because of it.

@isweartokira I hate to see it happening. I am thinking it has a lot to do with their youtube television now and how they are adapting into a subscription service. They want to fit a certain mold and reign in the creators. It's sad.

@samysotelo18 Have you ever played the mcdonalds game? I was looking for it the other day and I couldn't find it anymore. I think they got rid of it to be honest. You played as a mcdonald's employee, then as a butcher and then as a farmer. It was a lot of fun.

Definitely not work related, I agree! A reading site would be nice, or maybe a game site?

@Tina30219 Yes, It wouldn't surprise me if in the next 20 years the majority of jobs are done online. Factory jobs will always be a necessity, and I don't think that fast food restaurants are going anywhere, but atleast most people will be using online work to supplement.

Yes, it would be devastating to me since it's my source of income. I think it would be devastating to a lot of people just because the internet is so heavily relied upon for entertainment now.

So you don't know? Maybe a movie site, music site or book site?

@Alexandoy Oh I see, I can understand what you mean. I think I would begin to get frustrated with there being no internet. Of course, I do know eventually I would be fine without it. I would just read a lot more.

@ScribbledAdNauseum probably not anymore. It is easier when I accept things like that disaster instead of clinging to the past.

Definitely Reddit. Everything else would get boring so quickly, and Reddit has everything.

I've spent hours on reddit before without even realizing it. Definitely one of my favorite sites (also where I got the inspiration for this question!)

I would probably go with goodreads.com, since it deal with books. Or I would want a site where I've learned a lot of things, like one of my craft sites. And if the internet shut down, I would be getting so much more done! lol

Same here! With the internet down, I'd be able to read more. The only thing is that it would cut off my main source of income. I think it would end up devastating a lot of people, so I hope it never happens.

@CRK109 I think there are enough security programs that protect the ISPs, so I hope it never happens.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I don't see it ever happening. Not unless hackers and viruses find a way to shut everything down.

After I stopped jumping for joy that the internet's insane grip on society was over, I would select IMDb as a movie lover.

Yeah, unfortuntely I feel like the grip is just going to get tighter. There would be a mass hysteria because of no internet, but then we wouldn't really know about it....

I feel like there would be a lot of repeated content here on mylot, but it would be nice as a way to remember the friends we made here, and whom we may not necessarily have another way to contact.
