More about my Working With Children card

The photo has nothing to do with the discussion but is another composite photo of those appearing on a calendar which I’ve written about ad nauseum. I thought I should explain more about the Working With Children (WWC) card that I received recently. I thought myLotters would be familiar with it but it seems that is not the case. The WWC Check is a compulsory screening in Western Australia, and the Christmas and Cocos Islands. The aim is to protect children by deterring people from applying to work with children where they have a criminal record that indicates they may harm a child. Anyone who wants to work with children, either in paid or voluntary positions, must have one of these cards. t is virtually a police clearance. While it can’t stop all abuse, it must surely help. Those who work with children in schools, clubs, and/or organisations are required to have one of these cards. Because we wanted to take photos at a horse event which involved child riders, we were required to have WWC cards. Vince’s is still current from when he worked at a school but I also needed one. Do you have something similar in your country?
Welcome to the Working with Children Check website in Western Australia.

@DocAndersen Do you mean you were abused? So many people now feel it is okay to admit to being abused when they were younger.

@JudyEv it should truly scare you that I had that once in the US.

That's a good thing. We don't have it here. But our schools are supposed to do a thorough verification before employing a teacher or staff. Though it is stated in rules many schools unfortunately don't follow it.

At least it might weed out a few undesirables. It's a pity if the schools don't do checks.

@arunima25 I think in Australia, there is now much more awareness of untoward behaviour.

@JudyEv There have been incidents of child abuse and still schools don't wake up.

I have no idea how it works here in Switzerland, but I am sure that nothing like this exists in Italy.

@JudyEv I am sure there is a certificate for teachers, trainers and people who work with kids, but I do not believe that a photograph who even should come to take pictures of kids in school is required any kind of certificate.

@LadyDuck They are very particular here. Even if you have the card, you need to check with parents that it's okay to take photos.

It seems some countries have it and some don't. It's a glorified police clearance in a way I guess.

We don't have a card. But we have to submit paperwork from the police and from social services for any paid or volunteer work with children. To take pictures at a public event probably not.

I like this kind of system. We don’t have it in here. So anyone there are required to have this or only for those people who works with children?

Only those who work with children although other employers might do background checks before employing someone.

I have no idea if we do but we should for the protection of children. Really nice shots especially the one with the rainbow, it's so vivid.

To be honest, we don’t even know that. All I know is that there should be a working permit from the government allowing children to work. This is specifically true in the show business.

This is more to try to screen out paedophiles. I'm not sure what the rules are regarding children working.
