We went to a produce swap meet - and meet an old acquaintance

Our nearest town has a produce swap meet every fortnight. We don’t grow anything but I did have a lot of little jars and egg cartons that I didn’t like just throwing out. We’d never been before but we took the jars and cartons in yesterday.
There were about eight or ten people there. We all put our ‘produce’ on a table under the trees. There were vegetables, pot plants, eggs, some sugar cane which we don’t see here too often and a few other bits and pieces. Then we each introduced ourselves and said what we had to offer. Once we’d all done that, you just helped yourself to whatever you wanted. We came home with some marmalade and a pot plant.
What was interesting was that, when we arrived, a young man asked me if we’d ever lived in Esperance. It turned out his mother and I had been friends and fellow piano teachers in the 1970s. Glen had learnt Suzuki violin. He had only been quite young when we left. We met his partner. Both are quite heavily tattooed. It was lovely talking to them. I guess I’m going to have to get over my aversion to tattoos or I’ll be biased against half the population!
Photo is of butternut pumpkin/squash and capsicum which we’ve grown in past years.

Yes it does seem that tattoos are everywhere. I wonder what will happen to all of them when they go out of style or when all these people age, it isn't going to be pretty.

@JudyEv My daughter had a weekend in the BIG City celebrating their 1st Wedding Anniversary and at the Hotel, the receptionist acknowledged that they were in school together and chatted up a storm - Her hubby said to me when they got home "is there NO city in the world that the *Name arent know?" Its a nice thing to meet people that crossed one's paths from the past. I am waiting to meet one of my old flames on the beach one day. . . . . .

It is indeed. We only found out a few weeks ago that our neighbour if Vince's second cousin. He met a lady surnamed 'Evans' in a computer shop and it turns out she was married to his cousin (since deceased). Their daughter lives next door.

We didn't take much from the table because we had only taken the jars and carons. I would have been happy to have given the things away. I just didn't want to waste them.
I guess everyone has an opinion on tattoos. Don't take any notice of me. I guess I'm just pretty 'old school'. I value your friendship here and having tattoos won't make any difference to that.

@JudyEv Im sure they appreciated the jars so they can can things to make preserves etc. Jars can be costly to buy. Not throwing them out and finding someone who can use them is a great idea!
I wasn't offended at all about you not liking tattoos. It's not as popular among your generation as it is mine. I'm sure there are things you like that I wouldn't. We are all different and unique.

I am always hoping I meet long lost relatives or friends somewhere. Oddly, several years ago, I saw someone at an airport that used to be in my girl scout group. It was so funny because she was chewing gum and had the same kind of blank lost in thought or zoned out expression she used to have then.

I have yet to experience that kind of swap meet, fresh produce. It's like the Sunday market here except that vendors are selling.

@JudyEv yes, a swap meet is like barter of the old times that no money is used.

It's very low key - only a few people etc so no money changes hands.

@Alexandoy That's true. People don't like excess food to go to waste so now they can take it to the swap meet.

It was a lucky day you went to the produce swap. I go lots of places and never see anyone I know. How nice it must have been seeing an acquaintance of long ago!

@oahuwriter We've been here 16 years. Admittedly, we are a little bit out of town but we know very few people in the town.

I see. Even in a little island like my home, I rarely see anyone I know.

It was a real surprise to see him there although I wouldn't have recognised him.

That's so true but by then everyone will have them and it will just be the (new) norm.
