It's the Berries

Besides making the friendship cake yesterday I have done a lot of cranberry stuff. I made the whole berry cranberry sauce last night. This morning I made Cranberry chutney and a cream cheese cranberry and apricot spread. Hubby really likes cranberry, so even if no one else really likes this stuff, we will eat it all. I seem to be the cranberry queen. There is another cheese spread I want to make and we will see what else is in store. Maybe some home made crackers. I have an assortment of store bought crackers already. My computer time is a bit limited and will continue to be over the holiday weekend, and that is okay. I have about a half hour before I go to work.

I am not a fan of cranberry. But my mom always had to have some.

I was "assigned" the cooked cranberry sauce that mom always made. I just keep adding more things. I have made cranberry sauce with chopped apples. With cinnamon as well. I have made cranberry and jalapeno sauce. My sister in law makes the raw cranberry salad. I do not care for that.

@Writingghost I havent done Thanksgiving dinner since mom passed away. But never was that into it anyways. I always went and helped her and kept the dishes washed up as she went.

My Mom made cranberry sauce every year. None of us loved it, but we ate some. It was odd the Thanksgiving after she passed away we all made some - we laughed for hours.

I love my sister's homemade cranberry sauce. Even love the canned stuff. It was a staple at our holiday meals. Neatly sliced and arranged on a platter.

@GardenGerty I have long given up on buying it for just myself. Maybe I'll buy a small can for me for our Christmas feast.

We have to have the canned jellied kind for all those who do not want the fruit in it.

You sound like you've been busy preparing for Thanksgiving. I found out an interesting fact this morning I never knew. The official fruit for Wisconsin is Cranberries. I knew we grew more than any other state, but I was surprised to find out how much more. We learn something new every day.

Hmmm. Hubby remembers finding them growing wild in the UP of Michigan as a kid. I bet they do not sell them any cheaper there in Wisconsin, though. That is how things go. Still a nifty fact.

Our friends are moving to the city and gave us some of their pantry goods. Included was quite a big bag of cranberries.

"Friendship cake" Is that the one where someone gives you a starter that you add to and keep some back before baking? I had it back in the late 80s/early 90s but got real' tired of it after a while so didn't keep any back after a while.

I've made many recipes with cranberries. Usually canned cranberry sauce though. I'd enjoy sampling all the food you are making.

LOVE cranberries! I will make some whole berry sauce and that is all. However, I think I will home can more, for later, while the berries are cheap and in season.

If you do not get around to cooking it up you can just throw the bags into the freezer until you are ready. It does can really great. You could probably sell it just like your other jams.
