Are you easily distracted?

My sister seems to have acquired quite a group of friends at her senior living apartments. This includes the lady that comes as many as thirty seven times a day. And the guy whose dog she baby sits, and her next door neighbor, and the neighbor's brother, and a couple of other old guys, etc. etc. Oh, and the 83 year old who wants to act like my sister is having a romance. When she was packing for our Thanksgiving trip she had many of these people "drop by". It is no wonder she did not bring spare needles for her insulin pen, or an extra pen for that matter. I cannot really blame her for getting distracted. Glad we could solve her problem with little difficulty.(see my discussion about the night before Thanksgiving) I would turn my lights off, pull the shades and lock the door. I know I am easily distracted. And sometimes there are just too many people.

yes ma'am, can see why she'd fergotten such. i'm gettin' to where i don't do well with lots 'f distractions either. seems i've lost my multi-taskin' abilities. those folks comin' all the time'd push me right o'er the edge. then 'gain, 't least she's not isolated.

She always lived with someone until she was seventy. She feels like she has real friends in the complex, but sometimes it is a bit much.

@crazyhorseladycx Oh, she has asked the one lady quite a few times. She says the sad thing is that she really likes her. She just is feeling suffocated.

Yes, I am easily distracted, unless I am doing something serious that requires all my attention.

I have to work hard to focus on very important things and do them one at a time.

@GardenGerty I am easily distracted when I work in the garden. I look at the birds, the cats, the flowers... no matter what is moving around.

Well then I'm probably a total disaster. There are never any people around yet I'm easily distracted. I'll start one project then I'll see something I wanted to do previously and start that then I'll see something else and start that. Obviously I never get anything done

See, that is me. I go from one thing to another unless I focus really hard, and hurt my brain.

That's great she has a lot of friends. It's too bad they were a distraction when she was leaving.

Mostly the friendships are good. I think it makes her healthier, she gets out more. The poor lady who visits too much is suffering from anxiety and likely dementia as well. Her family is waiting for her to have an opening in assisted living.

@GardenGerty I'm sure it helps her be healthier. I know I feel happier and healthier with the socialization I get with the Y, church, and Writer's Guild and Rock Painting.

@just4him Yes, working helps me both mentally and physically. Plus we are attending a new church.

@GardenGerty I think that being annoyed becomes worse with age. Not with everybody but with quite a lot. Patience seems to run out.

@GardenGerty I did mine last night, so they're fairly quiet right now, though my soup tried to drown me just now.

It's good she has such lively people around her, but yes I think next time she should set aside some time when no one comes to call (maybe during the dinner hour) and pack the bags. Did she not write a list as she was packing? THat's another good way to not forget anything.

We don't know your sister's point of view. Maybe she is annoyed by the many visitors but secretly enjoys the visits.

M-L I think you have seen through my sister. She is flattered. It gives her something to talk about to the rest of us, and even to complain. However, it still did distract her when she was packing.

And that is why I moved and told no one. That was kind of how it was living in the old home place. 37 times!! why don`t she just move in? Does your sister like this?

The frequent visitor lady is waiting on an opening in an assisted living. One or two of the older guys, when they see L----- coming will suddenly have an errand that they need my sister to go on with them. Hence the 83 year old accusing her of having a romance with one. They found and answer for her, "they are cousins".

It depends on the individual's views. Some like their place crowdy others like to stay alone.

She would like at least one day a week to herself. Most understand, but not all.
