Apple butter

My sister was given a bunch of fairly large apples. I was given some HUGE apples. I prefer to eat small apples. I do not think she eats apples at all.
So, in my crockpot right now are all the big apples, cooking.
Cooking, cooking, cooking. . . they will be apple butter, which we both like.
No sugar added, crockpot easy apple butter. It is really easy, and delicious. I spread it on many things.

I never had apple butter but it sounds so nice. Normally when we have huge apples, I just cut them up and eat the slices with some peanut butter, so good!

It is like spiced and cooked down applesauce, smooth and creamy and full of spices.

Is apple butter like a jam that you can spread on the bread?

Yes, the fruit is cooked and the either a blender or food processor to grind it up smoothly. Add spices and continue cooking until it is thick.

@GardenGerty maybe I can try that since apple is now cheaper this season.

Some people put about 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar in it so it has enough acid to be safely canned.

I did not eat it much until I grew up, but it is perfect to add a little sweetness to a meal. I like it on waffles.

What do you add to cooked apples, to make it into apple butter?

I fill my 6 quart crockpot with apples. All I remove is the seed and core part. Put 1/4 C water and I put 1/4 C apple cider vinegar so I can can it safely. I put a Tablespoon of "Pie Spice" which is a blend I do at home. Basically cinnamon with cloves, nutmeg and ginger as well.
