End of the left overs and other thoughts.

Last night I decided to do something a little different with some of the left over turkey and corn. I was going to attempt to make some turkey soup out of it. I cut up some of the turkey in to bite sized pieces, got the left over corn, some peas and cut up some carrots. I was just going to make enough for a few servings. What I didn't realize is I only had chicken flavored broth, but what ever turkey, chicken they are both birds so I used it instead of running to the store for one thing.
I have to say it wasn't to bad really, and it was something different than just a turkey sandwich. I got to use up the left over corn too, although there wasn't really that much left of it anyways. It was a lot easier than my other idea of making a turkey pot pie. So that was the last of the left overs except a little turkey that I am hoping my son took to work as his lunch. If he didn't I think I might just throw the last of it out. It's about enough for a sandwich and well I am sick of turkey now.
Not a lot else happened last night, I watched an episode of Band of Brothers last night while eating. I love that mini series and have seen it a bunch of times and it just never gets old for me. I watched the 6th episode called Bastogne. If you are unaware this is about the time that the 506th, Easy company was in Bastogne, Belgium. It was winter and they were short on cold weather gear, food, supplies and ammunition yet they were to defend the area.
When I think about complaining that it is cold out I often think of these men. They were in a war, in the cold winter with no shelter and mostly with no cold weather gear. Germans shooting at them and shelling them and there was nothing they could do about it. Here people complain about how cold it is while they sit inside their nice heated homes. Yea, life sure is hard for us.
Well hope your day is going well.

Not so much. We're affected by the loss of 8 residential houses gutted by fire early this morning.

@Nakitakona Well, although it would not be good to lose your property and I feel for them, at least no person was lost. material items can eventually be replaced.

@Bensen32 No casualties. Only the houses and their personal properties were consumed by the big fire.

My father told me many times that they did not even wore decent shoes because Italy did not provide more equipment during the war. They had cardboard soles and they had to march in the cold and snow.
I usually freeze my leftovers, so I am not obliged to eat the same thing a few days in a row.

Yep, I guess that is one of the many reasons they are referred to as the greatest generation. They dealt with such hardships and pushed through. Hardships that people now couldn't even come close to dealing with.
I wish I would have put some of it in the freezer but didn't think about it till it was to late.

That's the one thing I miss most about not cooking Thanksgiving dinner...no leftovers. I did take a small plate home after I left my daughters but it wasn't enough.
Sounds like making soup was a good way to finish off your leftovers.
