The Geese Playing Follow the Leader!

I had an appointment on Friday for my annual mammogram and when I got to the doctor's office saw all the geese exiting the parking lot in a row, one after the other. The geese fly in every winter and choose which lake to hang out at every year. They are regulars here at the lake across the street from this doctor's office. I found it amusing that they were all walking in a straight line as if they were playing Follow the Leader. What kind of winter birds frequent your area in the winter, but leave in spring? That would have been fun to watch. Some times my area gets an egret.

We have egrets all the time. They are native to our area.

@sallypup They are pretty too! They are everywhere here since we have so much lowland, rivers, streams and swamps.

@kareng I'm pretty far north for egrets so spotting one is a special time.

That is so cute! Geese are such nasty and dirty birds. Many leave from Connecticut for warmer climates just like me!

They do leave messes in their paths. I guess we have to overlook that sometimes to enjoy nature.

Ours migrate south. You could be getting some of our geese. I don't know if they've left yet but should have by now.

@kareng I agree. It would be nice to know if they came from here, but hey, they came from somewhere north.

We do not have geese here, we have Mallard ducks, they stay even in winter. Some birds (like swallows) migrate during the colder motnhs.

@kareng I like the Mallard ducks, they often visit our garden, because of the pond.

Like you, I find that interesting that geese walk in a straight line. I wonder who the boss goose is?

We don't have that many around here. I wonder why? Wild ducks, yes! Geese-not so often.

That's interesting. It's nice and warm there, you would think they would find you, @JohnRoberts I guess it is because you are at extreme west of the U.S.? Who knows!
