Did YOU MISS ME?... Awkward?!?

As the usual routine, I am having classes online on weekends. I need to work hard and relax next week. I am planning not to teach online. To cut it short, I am teaching a young male student tonight. I did not have any classes with him for a long time.
Me: "How are you?"
Student: I am happy to see you again, teacher.
Me: "Did you miss me?" (Kidding up...)
Student: I miss you so much.
Me: Smiling @#! (Awkward...)
At this particular moment, I suddenly felt awkward. Perhaps I am not used to hearing this statement from the male population. I find it cheesy for a minute. But I need to brush off the malicious thing in mind.
"What do you think about giving cheesy pick-up lines to others?"
"How do you feel if someone misses you?"

Haha. I know what you mean. We like the macho stuff. I will punch you in the face like everyone else teacher. See, not awkward.
Maybe not that far sorry was in Marine Corps how we talk to each other but you get my point.

You got my point.
For this young fellow, I feel not right. At age 18, he needs to be careful of saying such a phrase. If he is in my bloodline or a close buddy, it would not be awkward. It is most likely not a cheesy phrase for people who are close to me.

@Shavkat Becareful also buddy, not all built like you. I love it, but if going to be a true teacher you have to take all forms. That is really a code among teachers and they take it seriously just like us big brutes.Funny thing I am not even that big, but I do not play with people that choose to be ignorant.

@crossbones27 I get your point. I am not putting into a serious matter. It is strictly no personal information needs to be released to my online students. I sometimes bothered if their mothers are calling my attention while having classes with their kiddies.

That's awkward especially if you're straight.

That is quite crazy..what is wrong with him saying that to you? It is not appropriate especially if you are teacher and then both males..what

I think it is nice to ask students or other people.

It really does look awkward if it was a male student saying that, unless he's gay though.

Honestly, cheesy pick-up lines are the best thing ever that's my view probably because I have a sense of humour that can laugh at them.
When someone misses me I feel sad and guilty to be honest. It makes me feel like I have been a bad friend and neglected them.
