Winter Squash

As a kid I would have said "yuck" to most winter squash. So glad that I am a grown up now.
I had an acorn squash waiting to be used. It had cost me 39 cents.
I cut it in half, scooped out the seeds. I asked hubby "sweet or savory"? He said to make it savory.
First I cooked it face down in a glass dish with a little water. Covered it with plastic wrap and cooked it six minutes. Turned it over. Brushed it with a combo of butter and bacon grease. In the cavity I chopped a slice of bacon for each side, then thinly sliced onion on top. Microwaved two minutes. Topped it with a generous scoop from my last cheese ball and microwaved for thirty seconds. It was delicious.
I will be getting more winter squash to have as wonderful healthy sides.

@BarBaraPrz Oh, I know. They need to get their own little rakes and shovels and get to work.

@GardenGerty I like yellow squash and I usually either fry up slices dipped in egg and breadcrumbs and then poured over tomato sauce or roasted in the oven

Thank you for sharing the recipe of that squash dish. I think it is the bacon that would give it the flavor. I may try that after the holiday season.
