What's one expense you've made that you now regret making?

It could be something you made recently or something you made years ago. It could be an expensive item or it could be a cheap item. What is one thing you regret spending money on? I think the thing I regret spending money on the most is driving lessons. I paid for them so that the driving course could also take me to get the driver's test / use their vehicle to do so. It cost me a little over $200.00 if memory serves, and I was too nervous and failed the test. The lady was nice enough to take me back a week later without charging me, but I got too nervous and made another mistake. This had been the third or fourth time in total that I had ever tried and after that I gave up. I won't pay again as I know that I would be too nervous. Friends have told me that I should just borrow a nerve pill from them and take it before doing the test, but I know it would be no use. I get nervous and I make a stupid mistake and that's just the way it is. I don't miss driving. What's an expense you regret making?

Things change, and it wouldnt' surprise me if more people stopped driving. Especially with uber, lyft and other companies around to transport people.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I don't know about that. There was a study recently put out that showed that once a person could afford to buy their own car they ditched all forms of public transport, and stopped using ride share and taxi services.

My Scrapbook. I bought the items for me to be ae to make a remembrance of our relationship. The items are too expensive and since I want it to be more special, I end up stuck it somewhere.

My mom used to do scrapbooking, there are so many things to buy and it can become expensive. Can you not sell the items to get your money back?

Hmmmmmm. I think it’s the promise ring I first selected out years ago! Waste of money.

Ah, i hadn't thought about my first engagement ring. It was cheap, and I liked it, but I did regret buying it after awhile... I have not seen you around in awhile. Honeymoon? Or just staying busy?

Any money I ever spent on my ex, the worst would be the amount of money I spent on a down payment, first and last months rent on an apartment and then the plane tickets to move to Wyoming. I don't even want to know how much money I spent, but it was the worst decision I ever made.

Oh I definitely have some regrets with exes, but I haven't spent a large amount on one. I'm sorry you had to spend all that only for the ex to turn out to be a dud!

@DesirousDreamer I can't blame you for that. You still held out hope that you were wrong and that it would all be fine. There's nothing wrong with that.

@ScribbledAdNauseum The worst thing was, I realized it was all a mistake right before I went on the plane! And yet I still went. So not only did it cost me a lot of money, it cost me my physical and mental health which is way worse than losing money.

I always marvel at people who don't drive, but many people don't. I don't know if it counts, but I made a VERY bad investment decision in a company called VelaTel some years back. I lost $20,000 on that investment. I don't know if I completely REGRET it. I mean, it was a calculated investment. In other words, I did my due diligence but simply got it wrong. As a result I lost my money. But I sure wish I could have turned it into the millions of dollars it was calculated to earn had I gotten it right.

More and more people are not driving. I can count two others in the family (though they are in laws) that do not drive though they are able to do so. I would still consider that a regret, as you could have saved the money and put it into a CD or something else that was a full guarantee.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah. I agree on the could have done something else with the money part. But there have been many more investments that had I took that approach I would not be where I am today. When it comes to investing you just hope to have more winners than losers. But you WILL have losers. It's just part of the game. If I look at all of the investments I have made and lost money on in my lifetime it is probably somewhere around $75,000 to $100,000. But I have picked more winners than losers and so it all kind of works out in the end. As for non-drivers, I can't think of anyone off the top of my head now. But my grandmother never drove.

Ah, I am sorry that you regret buying that. I loved the soap making stuff I bought, but it was very costly. I spent a little over $100 on it all.

@Janet357 I think the cheapest thing I got was the weighing scale, but I had bought it a year ago. I found it on ebay for $10.00 and had a coupon code offer and a gift card that I used. I ended up spending $1.00 for it.

Wasted time on men myself, but never a significant amount of money. That's one thing I count myself grateful for.

The robot lawn mower, it has been expensive, it never worked and (of course) I did not recover all my money selling it to a neighbor.

I've considered robot vacuums before, but I always worry about it's actual usefulness and quality.

@LadyDuck I feel like it would eventually need to be re-calibrated, or the charging station would give out. Household cleaning technology has come a long way, but it's not fail proof.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I brought one home and tried for a few days and I decided to bring it back to the store. It's not worth the price.

That is a good question. Probably on items for projects that I never got around to do, or that never paid off for me.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, exactly....in my case it is usually I don't have the skills to sell the items I make with what I bought.

it is funny, we have twins. One of them we were sure was going to fail the driving test. He passed. The other we were sure was going to pass (he failed twice). Don't worry. You will pass. Have confidence in you!

I've tried for many years. When I was in school, I didn't get to do the course like everyone else because I had epilepsy. Partially because my doctors dragged butt on getting the paperwork in. I remember taking the informational course but I didn't go driving with them for some reason. I've taken several other driving courses since. I'm confident when driving with friends, but not when I get behind the wheel with an instructor.
