Our Christmas elf

Our first grandchild, Kristin, was born 30 years ago today. She was due on Christmas day, but thank the good Lord she was a little early!
That was the year we had a huge snowstorm. We were at the hospital when she was born, but then couldn't get back the next day. I was so upset at the stupid snow, I cooked our Christmas dinner and cried. Cooked, cried, and praised God for our perfect little angel.
Christmas morning we packed up gifts, plates of food and headed to the hospital 45 minutes away in my husband's four wheel truck.
She was dressed in a little elf outfit that I had bought (back then we didn't know ahead of time if the baby would be a girl or boy.)
We enjoyed our dinner there in the hospital room and opened gifts. Kristin had a head full of black hair and was the cutest thing we had seen since our daughter was born!
Can't believe she's 30...her boyfriend has taken her to New York City to celebrate and they'll be at our daughter's tomorrow.
She was the best Christmas gift we've ever received.
Well, except for the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Since we didn't know if she'd be a boy or girl, the little elf outfit was perfect for either one. When she and mom came home from the hospital, I stayed with them a few days to help out. The water pipes froze, so that was a challenge making formula.

@1creekgirl That never happens here although sometimes a hose to a water-trough might freeze but just for a few hours.

aw, sweetest gift 'f all, the blessin' 'f a healthy babe. i kinda miss the days when one'd nary a clue if'n pink 'r blue, lol. get a tad disturbed when receivin' baby shower 'nnouncements with a pic (from an ultrasound) 'f the new lil darlin', complete with full name. doesn't leave much fer suspense, eh? 'lready know who's facial features their gonna 've 'n e'erythin', but the date 'n time they're gonna make their grand debut.

Yeah, I miss being surprised when the baby is born. Having a boy and girl's names picked out. Hope you and your family have a really special time together.
