Charlie has a monkey on his back

Here is another photo from our weekend at my sister’s place. My nephew and his wife have a dachshund called ‘Charlie’ as in ‘Charlie Brown’. He has a Christmas sweater which would have to win an ugly sweater award. We don’t seem to have ‘ugly sweater’ competitions here. I guess because it’s mostly much too hot to be wearing a sweater, even for a short time. After a few hours, Alison took the monkey off his back as it was a bit hot to wear for too long. He is a very cute little dog and was no trouble. There were two other dogs at the other house on the property but one was a boisterous Labrador puppy and Charlie found him a bit intimidating. Have you heard of the expression ‘a monkey on my back’? It means you have a difficult problem which is hard to get rid of. It’s sometimes used when talking about drug addiction.

What a cute dog! My brother had a female dachshund, and we miss her terribly. They are also known as hot dogs. lol Yes, I’ve heard that term.

@JudyEv There are so many in Italy. For a difficult problem which is hard to get rid, in Italy we say "avere una gatta da pelare" (To have a cat to shear).

There are some strange expressions around. I'm sure every language has its idioms.

@JudyEv I can't imagine it being hot at this time of year. It's so cold here.

He was happy enough but it was too hot to leave it on for long.

@JudyEv That is true since most dogs are camera shy.

@JudyEv I am glad she took the sweater off of Charlie. He is very cute. Sorry about the lab puppy bothering Charlie. I love labs and had one. Yes, I have heard of a monkey on my back. Thanks for explaining that.

They are very tolerant and patient indeed. Charlie is much loved so I guess he doesn't mind wearing a jacket occasionally.

@JudyEv I saw at Walmart Christmas gear for pets too. It's so cute and keeps them warm. I hope the fire is easing up or in control.

There is the phrase "a monkey on your back" in one of my dictionaries.I think that letting Charlie wear such a sweater is to make a monkey of him.

Poor chap someone else put a monkey on his back! Still, I did wonder about the heat and woolly jumpers when you've already got a fur coat
