Once again, the photo has nothing to do with the text. Feel free to write a response that has nothing to do with either – like JJ did once.
We are having visitors tonight for dinner. Our friend arrived yesterday and she, Vince and one of the guests were all bursars (business administrators) at schools. The wife of the third bursar worked with the husband of the friends who gave us the cabinet. It is a very small world sometimes.
We’re having roast pork with apple sauce, roast vegetables and gravy. We’re trying something different for dessert – a lemon posset. I’d take a photo but it just looks like thick yellow custard in a fancy glass. It’s basically cream and lemon. We’ll top it with a scoop of ice-cream and a few berries. There is a very small amount each but it’s very rich.
The possets were made last night and are in the fridge. We’re making an avocado salsa this morning then there will just be the roast to do later – apart from cleaning, of course. There is always cleaning, isn’t there? And isn't 'posset' a funny word? I don't have time to research how it came about but it's a strange-sounding word to me.

@crazyhorseladycx Two came to get a drink in the middle of a concert once and everyone's eyes turned to watch and the poor old singers were forgotten for a moment.

I've never heard of the word 'posset' before, and yes, it is a strange-sounding word!

It does sound a bit similar but chocolate instead of lemon.

I have heard of "posset" but have never tried it. I do like custard, so I think it's time to give that a try!! And you are right... I wonder where the dessert name originated!!

It was delicious. The serves were small but it was very rich so it didn't matter much.

It's very lemony. We'll be adding it to our list of desserts.

It's like thick yellow custard - quite ordinary to look at.

as an American English is not my primary language.
my interpretation of the opening line is that you ate visitors as your dinner.
or did I go the wrong way reading that :-)

Haha. I can see now that I've gone back and read it how you could have interpreted it that way.
But no, we didn't eat them for dinner.
