First day back

Some kids are out sick, some have appointments, and some just are not ready I guess. The entire school has had a little bit of their schedules switched. It has to do with splitting groups to more manageable sizes for music. It is a good move, but it does change how things will go. I am headed to bed now, and it is really early.

In our area, the school district goes back next week . . . I don't know about all the charter schools though as they run their own calendars. It is rather difficult going back to routine after winter break - but eventually kids find their school groove again.

I think the kids miss the routine and structure, even when it seems they do not like it. It lets them know "what's next."

@much2say Yes it can be tough to get back into the routine. Yet, at times, kids love to go after long breaks.

@much2say Yes they do miss their friends. Also at times, us parents preach them more than the teachers.

Some kids do not even keep a routine when in school. School is predictable and I think they benefit from knowing "what's next".

Maybe the kids still have the hangover of the holidays.

I do not sleep as well as I would like. Often wake up too early. I sleep enough, though.

So is the cold weather or the rains making kids sick, or something else?

I think when we are inside buildings so much, if one student is sick, many are exposed. Add to that most people travel during holidays, then they bring back new germs to share with everyone else. Sickness seems to pick up when we have been out of school a few days.

Oh I always rest well at least for a little bit. At least six hours most nights. Sometimes more or less.

It usually takes some time to return to a routine when a new year begins.

Yes, it does. Meanwhile the kids are growing and changing and routines are different so it is all new.

It is good to be back, but I think in some ways I need a permanent break.

Our schools here in our town started back on the 2nd. But the schools in other towns started on the 6th. Weird how that goes. But yeah even kids in our towns schools dodnt go back til the following week as parents thought it was stupid to go back for two days then have the weekend off.

When I worked in another town we often tried to make sure kids came back for just a day or two first, sort of to ease them into the routine again. I also find the different rules for bad weather from district to district can be confusing.
