So how do you MyLot?

What sort of discussions do people like to read, long, medium, short? Do they like day to day chit chat, educational stuff, amusing anecdotes? It's quite hard to actually get it right. Do you seek out certain people you know you have something in common with or are you always looking for something new? This is how it is for me. I have met certain people here that I really get along with. I don't know them personally but I just love talking to them and feel we would get along in real life. I usually interact with them most days ... but at the same time I know there must be people I haven't met yet so I dabble in the unknown too. How do you MyLot? Do you stick to the same people or do you look for those who could be friends in the future?

Very long discussions can be interesting, but very long discussions that only say what you have done from the moment you woke up until you went to bed are boring and I skip. I like a bit of everything if it is well written. I like day to day chit chat, amusing anecdotes, educational stuff it depends. I like to know about habits and costumes of other countries. I had enough of history in school.

Yes I like a bit of everything. I try to make my discussions interesting but some days I can't think of a thing to write.

@LadyDuck I never write about what I had to eat and I never say good morning/goodnight. I don't mind talking about food occasionally like we do sometimes.

@sprite1950 No matter what can be interesting, I think that it is important not to write every day the same things (what I had for breakfast, good night... and so on).

I mylot much like a squirrel does squirrely things... I can't say that I do everything the same. Most of the time I get online, deal with my notifications, including those that are coming in as I comment back. Once I get done with those I write a discussion. Sometimes I write the discussion first. I try to stick with the same people, but sometimes I talk to new ones. It also depends on how much I may want to try to earn for that day and who is and isn't online.

I tend to do the same things every day in the same order. I attend to my notifications first but I don't always post a discussion as sometimes my mind is blank. I mostly talk to the same people but like you I talk to new people too. The one thing I love about MyLot is you can never run out of things to do.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I talk to quite a few nationalities, a lot of Americans, some Filipinos, not so many Indians but I don't mind who they are. I like to talk to people from the UK too. One of them lives quite close to me.

@sprite1950 A lot of my discussions lately have revolved around things I have dreamed or things I have read. I used to do a lot of history type discussions, but I don't do those so much anymore. I've been talking to a lot of people from India and the Phillippines lately.

When I'm not trying to get through all my notifications (which is most of my time here on myLot), I try to scan the most recent discussions. I admit I do have a bias to lean towards those on this site who are my friends, but I also try to meet other people here as well. Okay....I admit it. I look for your discussions!

@moffittjc That's great, I genuinely love talking to American people. It's easy because we speak the same language (more or less) but there are enough differences in the way we live to make it interesting.

There people on here that I tend to read discussions from often. However, I just read whatever catches my eye or interest, or something I think I may have something to say on that I find in one of the discussion list pages, regardless of who the author is.

I think people don't like it when the discussions are too long. But I personally don't like it when they are too short either. Some people seem to just ask a question and be done with it. I prefer the discussion to have some profundity. I don't necessarily stick to the same people, but I see a lot of people coming back to my discussions or me to theirs. I also prefer the discussions to be well written, and they should definitely be interesting.

@sprite1950 I agree. And I also don't mean to shame any non-native speakers (I'm a non-native speaker myself), but sometimes the writing just feels sloppy and lazy. I also find it difficult to come up with appealing subjects sometimes. That's why I only start a discussion when I think it can contribute something. I don't start a discussion just to start one (or at least now I don't, I'm not sure, but I might be guilty to doing this in the past).

@maclanis Yes I have been guilty of doing that too when I was hoping to make new friends. I think as long as it is well written it doesn't matter too much what it is as anything seems to go here. I can see you're from Belgium and your English is excellent. Is it taught in your schools from a young age?

Absolutely. I am British so there is no excuse for my English to be poor but sometimes it is hard to find something that will appeal to many people because we are all different in what we like to read. I prefer medium length discussions, perhaps a couple of paragraphs.

I like to catch up with all my notifications. Then if I have the time, I'll look up people I follow to see what they are up to and if we can chat. I have a couple of people I call friends here, so I like them to know that I haven't forgotten them LOL I don't like very long posts and tend to go for short ones to a few paragraphs.

I don't write very long discussions because I know people won't read them. There is a lady here who writes a book every time she replies. I usually leave her posts until last as I would never get anything else done!

After checking/responding to my notifications I check "Interesting Discussions" then to "Most Recent Discussions". I choose a dscussion to read based on the TITLE no matter who the author is (new or old familiar names except those who blocked me or those I blocked which I hope they don't appear. LOL). If no recent discussions that catch my eyes I go to Top/Hot/New Users Discussions etc. or visit discussions of familiar names.

I don't think I really have a set way of doing it, but rather multiple ways of doing it. I guess it just depends on what I feel like on a particular day. I think sometimes you have to mix it up a little bit just to keep it interesting. As for the type of posts I like, I do prefer shorter ones. I like the day to day ones, and the food posts. I am usually not a huge fan of what I call "comprehensive" posts, or in other words, "I did this, then I did this, then I did that," and so on and so forth. They are just harder for me to follow and comment on. Usually when I come in here though I will start by sifting through my notifications and trying to whittle them down a bit, then I will check on my own discussions a bit, and then it is off to Most Recent Activity or catching up on tabs of members profiles I opened as I was going through my own discussion comments. I do have certain people as well that I like to interact it with more than others. Like I say, I'm all over the map. It just depends on my mood and the day,

Yes I mix things up a bit although I always attend to my notifications first. I also have people I love interacting with and I often think I would get on with them in real life too. When I write a discussion I try to make it a couple of paragraphs .. I saw one yesterday that was just one sentence! I actually don't think that many people read much beyond the title or perhaps if there is a question at the end they might just answer that but hey ho if they reply then they are doing me a favour

@porwest You're absolutely right of course, The important thing is that they have bothered to look at my posts at all and if I'm lucky enough for them to leave a comment then that's a positive. I've got to admit that if a post is very long I will skim it rather than read it properly so that I can get the gist of what a person is talking about and then pick out a point that I can reply to.

@sprite1950 I like the shorter posts personally. Just me. Not that I have a short attention span. Just easier to read and comment on. The ones that go all over the place describing their entire day sometimes drive me nuts. Just too much going on there and it's hard to figure out what interests me enough to comment on. As for people who don't actually read the post, some people around here get really bent out of shape about that. It CAN be annoying. Don't get me wrong. But at the end of the day I like to believe I am witty enough to still play along with those folks a bit and get my pennies...so does it really matter when all is said and done? If nothing else, I know I am not paid for someone to read my post. But I am paid for someone to like it or comment on it. So isn't that win, win? EVEN if they did not read the post? Besides, we all have different interests but we still want to interact. It's what we are here for. I don't expect that everyone is going to be going to my posts with great anticipation no matter what I talk about. The fact that they show up at all is good enough for me.

The exact reason I have come back to mylot is friends I made here. I have had some really good friends here on mylot. Since the time I joined. And I still remember them by their profile pictures. I loved talking to them and we all shared great knowledge about how much we know about earning online, about food, shared daily life issues etc no wonder I can never get rid of this website.
